The problem you're imagining is imagined! (In my opinion many people would be stoked to get a shot at a main tournament even if it meant they only played two games, those who don't like the idea of it don't go.)
The Berlin-style wildcard was awesome/epic/loved by all. The Paris pre-qualifier wildcard was none of those things (in my opinion).
