They didn't remove the outer chainring.

They didn't remove the frame lugs either. Since the chainring/spider is one piece swaged to the crank, removing it will destroy one or the other.

The spokes are playing with my eyes.
It really looks like there are little wormy spokes in there, it's a pretty good optical illusion.
Better than the strange shape they're going for with the inner tubes.
