I'm planning to go to Richmond park on Saturday. Overgrounding it from Hackney to avoid bike related issues.

there were announcements on the rail networks banning bikes on trains for this weekend and wednesday's ITT.. in anticipation of thousands heading to the surrey hills, hampton court or other olympic sites..
everyone please check before you travel.. as i can't substantiate this claim

http://www.southwesttrains.co.uk/cycle-policy.aspx
We operate one of the busiest rail networks in Europe and space for cycles on our trains is limited. As a result, at peak times and on certain services we have to restrict the carriage of non-folding bikes. This is a standard policy all year round. However, we welcome fully folded bikes on our trains at any time.
During the Olympic and Paralympic Games our train services are going to be even busier. We will be carrying significant numbers of extra passengers on top of our normal levels of daily customers.
We have considered carefully the position regarding cycles over the period of London 2012, including listening to feedback from our customers and our staff. Following that review, we have decided that our policy for non-folding and folding bicycles will remain unchanged throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The only exception will be on 28 and 29 July, when we will be unable to carry bicycles on our services via Epsom. This is also the case with other train operators and will ensure we can carry the maximum number of passengers to see the cycle race at Box Hill.
Green travel is important to us and we are continuing to invest in facilities for cyclists using our network.

Going for the end of the A24 on the loop so we can catch them more than once...

yep no bikes this weekend on Southern too:
Southern Cycle Policy during the Olympic Road Cycle Race
The Olympic Road Cycle Race event will take place on July 28th and 29th. From start of service on 28th July to close of service on 29th July, non fully folding bikes will not be permitted on trains between London Bridge/London Victoria and Box Hill & Westhumble on routes via Mitcham Junction, West Croydon, Sutton, Epsom and Horsham. -

That's very kind, dude. I'll keep you posted on here. Just trying to organise a couple of mates.

This. I'm thinking somewhere near the Reigate Rd or Leatherhead bypass roundabouts.

I'm thinking Richmond Park. Is this foolhardy?

It's my plan too. I assume you'll be able to take your bike in?
They are estimated to pass through at 10.19 am and return around 15.24 pm.
Lots of info here - http://www.london2012.com/cycling-road/event/men-road-race/coursemap/

Have three tickets to the zico area but don't know what to do.
Fancy going for a ride but will be geared to help my knees relax, but no idea if I should go towards the crowds or away from every one.

I'm not sure how easy it will be to get there as I usually ride along the race route (part of it) to get to RP.
For the test event last year, the officious little pricks in hi viz jackets tried to stop us. They failed but I imagine they'll have a bit more clout this year.
I'm going to watch them go through Putney in a blur and catch the rest on telly. I decided that it was Box Hill or bust and I didn't get the tickets.

there is an expo on at denbies which might be worth a look.

I'm going to be around Headley, hopefully on Mill Lane if you can get down there, otherwise on the common somewhere.

I've got a ticket for the Donkey Green/Straw Belle areas. Following what I've read and what Bernie quoted...
Free, secure cycle parking will be provided for ticket holders near the Old London Road and Donkey Green entrances.
I'll ride in along Box Hill Road and lock up there or somewhere. Failing posts, there are plenty of trees! Otherwise it'll be a ball ache to get to for me from Banstead type area.

I have tickets to the Zico thing too, but not sure if I want to brave the heaving crowds and have a nightmare trying to get there.

Looking to ride the 100 miler prudential in August on my langster and was wondering of box hill was achievable on this single speed bike
-

Yes it is, expect people to walk past you though...

Sure is, but give it a try beforehand to get a feel for the gradient and positioning on the switchbacks. Great cup of tea and slice of bread pudding will be your reward when you get to the top and the NT cafe.

Leith hill is a steeper climb. Box hill you can do in your big ring. Leith Hill not so much

Yes, but I suspect that unless you're somewhere up front the crowds might make it impossible to find your own pace which won't help.
Is anyone going on Saturday?
I have tickets to the donkey green section, the provision for getting there is pretty poor as it is not clear where you can cycle and where you can't when you get near the route.
I can't be bothered riding to find that I have to push my bike most of the way, I also saw a caviat elsewhere that says the cycle storage is limited which would be a ball ache if there is no-where to leave it once you arrive.
Decided to get an early train from Victoria in the end
I am well excited about the race though been looking forward to it for weeks, I tried to get tickets and failed went home to find out my wife had bought me some as a suprise.
