  • I thought this. Wiggins is a proper diesel. If he can avoid blowing up in the Giro I reckon he can keep his head down and train hard for 4 weeks and still be competitive, maybe even have an advantage in that he's not 'riding into form' in the first week of the Tour.
    He could put valuable minutes into his rivals in that first week and still have a buffer if he fades in the last week of the Tour.

    The issue with attempting the Giro/Tour double is not having to train hard in between them, more that it is extremely difficult to have two peaks of form of 3 weeks long in a 10 week period. The coaches Sky have seem to be able to turn accepted coaching norms on their head, remember last year when everyone said Wiggins was peaking too early, so I'm sure they think they know how to achieve this.

    It'll be interesting to watch but it is risky so having two designated leaders seems sensible to me, despite what Michelle Cound might think.
