  • Wardy - very jealous of the Super Galaxy and the Mistral. Do you really need both?

I only have two! I am emigrating in a couple of months so I have been cutting it down. This time last year I had eight...

    1. Gazelle Champion Mondial, built with a bizarre mix of Shimano 600-Ultegra and Shimano Deore XT. Low geared, Technomic stem, 28c Ruffy Tuffy tyres - comfortable road bike. Keeping this for a while as I am going on a little tour before I go, then selling it.

    2. Merlin Malt 1 - with riser stem and Mary bars, and bikepacking bags - comfortable cheap offroad tourer that I will be taking abroad with me.

    Parts in storage:

    1. Early 1980s (I think) F.W. Evans touring/audax frame - 64/57, 73/73 degrees, 531 throughout, mudguard and rack eyelets, Campagnolo dropouts... paint's a bit naff but I can sort that.
    2. Campagnolo Record steel headset for the above
    3. Nitto Technomic for the above
    4. Santé 36h hubset for the above

Girlfriend (or fiancée, I should say)

    1. 80s Raleigh Caprice. It was totally original when I bought it... the rear steel wheel rusted out and an errant driver took care of the front one, so I bought some alu-rimmed wheels for it, and the upgrade bandwagon got rolling - now only the frame, forks and BB are original - it has light modern alloy parts throughout and built as a singlespeed weighs about 12kg with rack, metal basket and mudguards, which is pretty good. A tough workhorse that she has used daily for nearly five years now, with nary a problem, but will have to be sold soon.
    2. 1992 Kona Fire Mountain, original, to be taken abroad.
