  • But yeah, looks clean, posts quickly, works.

    Nice.

    Tootles!

  • looks like a very promising start.

Seems like there is lots of white space around those sub-forum titles on the main page (General chit chat etc.)... also the footer is a bit sudden and could do with something more definite like you have on the forum now.

Not sure if you are at that design stage yet but hope that helps.
Also I keep being called a douchenozzle from the pop up box which is my favourite feature.

  • Did you break the internet rogan?

  • This third-party authentication and avatar stuff. Are you planning on bringing it in-house at all?

We're planning on seeing how Mozilla Persona works in practise, how you guys like it.

We love the concept of not owning your identity. It's way more secure this way, and it will work great with third party clients for Microcosm (i.e. a native Android app).

But... whether we keep it depends on feedback.

As for Gravatars/Avatars. We're starting with Gravatar because it works well. I'm very open on this though, we're going to have file-uploading so it will be easy to have avatars that we host. Mostly I will be looking at whether Gravatar gets a bad reaction by users, and if that doesn't happen then whether Gravatar infrstructure is slower than ours.

    Many thanks.

We are at the design stage, the design comes from 6pt on here. And it is a very nice design... but I couldn't say we've perfectly built his vision, and nor that he's seen his vision in action.

Usage is the best feedback tool. We'll make it better, but the intent of a clear and accessible (readable) design is very much demonstrated already.

    style tags are fun

Yeah, that won't be possible in future as we'll be scrubbing the input.

But if you're having fun, you will want to look at Bootstrap 3 (Work In Progress) as that is what we're using.

Hah... I removed some of the scripts as it was wearing out my Esc key, but the new colour scheme can stay.

  • My bad, I wanted a 6 char password. Not that it wouldn't let me have a long password.

Based on that password length, I'd guess you use the same password everywhere.

    excellent...

  • It's amazing that it's already available--fast work, Velocio and blueprints.

I like Persona, but not Gravatar--the latter required me to sign up to Wordpress (unless I've done something wrong, which is likely) and was cumbersome. Or could Persona add an avatar feature? (It may be intended to be more general than for avatar-requiring sites for all I know.)

  • hmm, persona requires firefox, something not supported on many a corporate machine?

  • Based on that password length, I'd guess you use the same password everywhere.

    excellent...

hippy knows that no-one will expect him to use '123456'.

  • hmm, persona requires firefox, something not supported on many a corporate machine?

I created a Persona using Chromium.

  • Could you support Gravitar as well as having a method for people adding their own. I'm with Oliver in that signing up to something else feels clunky.

    Also, I'd update this page
    http://microcosm.app/
    with a nicer screen-shot

  • okay, let's just suppose that a lot of corporates run ie8 and are locked down

  • hmm, persona requires firefox, something not supported on many a corporate machine?

    Persona does not require Firefox.

It is made by the same non-profit organisation who make Firefox, so you may see branding messages between the two... but it does not require Firefox.

  • okay, yet on a corporate ie8 machine it is not possible to sign in

    That's a bug... I'll take a look.

  • Am I rich yet?

  • Am I rich yet?

    Not yet.

  • something bad has happened... now i can't get to any of it.

  • Hippy must have reached 1000 posts and it broke..
yep - broken for me too - "something bad happened" page

  • Fixed. Momentary bad configuration of the server.

    Bug report thread >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

  • BTW, if anyone is wondering... we think the first few hours of the alpha is a great success.

    Why?

    Because certain things happened:

    1) People managed to get on there and post
    2) The rough design wasn't rejected
    3) None of the infrastructure fell over, and all of it happily took the load (it could power many small sites immediately, and potentially even LFGSS)
    4) The average speed of the API was good enough that it could power a live site
    5) You've helped us produce a bug list that we can work through and that can prioritise our work

There's no doubt we have a lot to do, but all of the above is feedback that will help us focus on what needs to be done.

So what I'm really saying is thank you.

We'll get to work on those bugs, and I'll finish the events stuff I had started (a nice form and nice display for that).

Don't worry about posting in the next day or two as the bugs are probably too numerous.

But we will get that sorted, and then once it's viable as a small hang-out place that's what we'll use it as whilst we polish it and add features.

  • Velocio, as you know I will be presenting Microcosm to members of our organisation (TABS) on 16th May. I wish to give a couple of people a view of the sandbox even in this rough state they will be able to see its potential. Is it alright to send them the link?

  • I'd assume so as it is already in the public domain.
