Having initially built this up with flat bars I have had a change. Nitto randoneurs and Dura ace shifters. Merlin were doing the shifters with all cables for £187 only a few quid more than 105s without cables. Feels v comfy.
I hope you like it, I feel like putting my tent on and going somewhere.

^ Looks lovely, even better when fork steerer chopped down to size.

• #3832
Don't want to do that til I'm sure.
-
• #3833

That can't be UCI compatible.

What a lovely shaft. Bit flicky I'll bet.

Surely they could have someone hand-weld some longer aqua-formed parts to make a proper size frame for him?

190...
Is that Andrey Kashechkin? Why would he use such a long stem? He's not even especially tall. Shirley they could achieve the same sort of fit with a bigger (still standard) frame.
-
• #3844
Looking at the lack of top cap on the headset, I assumed he couldn't go lower with the correct frame size so resorted to a longer stem on a smaller frame, like Taylor Phinney's BMC (150mm stem);

Edit - it's not 190mm, there's another photo that show it's 165mm rather.
File this one under "strange." Andrey Kashechkin rides with this custom-made 165mm stem on his Specialized S-Works SL4, slammed all the way down to the headset cap. Must be a lanky fellow. Photo: Caley Fretz | VeloNews.com

It's like a cockpit spot the difference, fun that.

• #3847
Is it because of the Mamil-sportive geometry?
-
• #3848
Indeed, nowadays headtube is longer than usual, which mean the pro is likely to ride on -17 stem, whether the sportive crowd happily sit with a large conical top cap and -6stem.

Been thinking that for a while, top end production bikes headtubes are freaking massive. Rode a few demo bikes from work (sworks venge 56cm) yeah it was a bit bigger than I normally ride (54) but with an 80mm stem, dropped and flipped as low as it would go I spent most of the day in the drops, the hoods just felt daft like doing an superman.
