• Just as the title says i am looking for An unusually long hub cone to fit a Rear Bayliss and Wiley axle, to replace the worn out cone you see below. It needs to be in better condition than mine.

It seems I have completely run my bike into the ground over the winter and am now paying the price. The bottom bracket is shot, along with the rear hub. I have some replacement cups but am looking for a single speed bottom bracket axle, Bayliss, TDC, Chater, etc.

  • Might be able to help with the cone (for super cheaps), got something that looks v similar in my bits box. Not sure about the Bayliss bit, but it is imperial/Whitworth. Did have a NOS TDC cottered axle too. I will have a dig around, on Tuesday, in the man-cave when I'm back there.

  • Great.
    thanks.
I have been using TDC No.2 and No. 9 up to now both for single speed.

  • I think I might have a cone like that in my inherited collection of vintage bike tat, if not it looks very simular.
I know there is some tdc axles, I will check the collective, and get back to you.

  • yes please.
I am based in London so can pick up and am willing to pay top dollar...

  • Got some good news and bad news....
Bad is I don't have the cone, its just a axle spacer, looks very similar. SORRY.
Good news is I have Both a t.d.c 9 & t.d.c 2 in very good condition, might even be unused by the looks of them

I will need to post to you as iam ooop north in Grimsby..
Let me know if either are any use
    Jim

  • I have two such cones. One sadly with some pits, the other (an old Airlite I think) is dirty but seemingly okay along the bearing track. Can't tell from your photo if it's better than yours or not. Happy to post you it if wanted? There're are a lot of cones like this though for 1950s hubs, so I'd get digital calipers and measure it up as best you can. Otherwise, give Abel Baker Cycles a call and tell them what you need. And make it a Saturday as I think that's the only day the guy who deals with the old stuff is in! They reproduce cones and parts for a lot of old hubs. I got Airlite ones there. Quality is pretty decent but can take a while to arrive. My address got lost once and he wrote it down completely incorrectly the second time. It is pleasantly old school though...they invoice for payment which is nicely trusting, and the chap is good for a chat about old parts.

  • thanks for the info. I have acquired an axle from 76jimmy and there are a couple of axles on eBay.
will PM you my details for the hub cone, im sure it will be an improvement on my cone.

  • I took the cones to work in case you wanted them, so they're here. Can pop them out in an envelope. Postage should be pennies, so no cost. I struggled to find Airlite cones so I know the hassle. Hopefully I'll get some good bicycle Karma!
