  • Finally got around to do doing one of these threads for my newly acquired Mercian tourer. Bought off A EF (Adam 0 great guy, the packaging was phenomenal took a good hour to get everything off and cleaned away!) a few weeks ago.

I'm currently commuting fixed which is a round trip of about 14 miles. But I'm really wanting to do longer rides - something which i've never done but I want to do. I saw this pretty much in my size and with a barbers pole! I snapped it up!

This is a 1977 Merican Frame made from 531 (sticker says competition?) with eyelets for guards on front and rear.

Plan is to build this up pretty much the same as Adam had it but with a few minor changes. I'm taking his advise a sourcing 90's campag 8-Speed stuff.

I trying to source this to have mostly Chorus - which isn't proving to be easy and I'm stalling!

Anyway here are Adam's pictures (hope you don't mind mate but they are better than anything I could even think about doing):

That is pretty much as far as I've got.

    I've got:

    • Chorus headset waiting to be installed
    • MA40 rims laced to Chorus hubs which are waiting for an 8 speed block. Undecided on ratios....
    • Chorus Rear mech
    • Veloce front mech both winging their way over from Poland

Also managed to get this off Ebay today for £40 which I thought was a surprising bargain:

Looking to go with Nitto noodle bars wrapped in Newbaums Aubergine bar cloth and 3ttt Pro chrome stem.

Saddle wise, I'm thinking one of these would be cool - really dont get on with Brooks:

    Oh and these:

Apparently there is clearence for 28c tyres on the frame. I hope i can squeeze these onto the rims? Anyone know if they'll fit on MA40's?

Still on the look out for some nice mid-90's Chorus ergos and a 230mm Chorus aero seatpost! So PM me if you have anything!

    Comments appreciated!!!
