Alan Shorter

  • I picked up this Alan Shorter bike last year from a Doctor in Surry that had used it in London during his training. He was now just getting shot of all his bike stuff as he had no time free to cycle. It was filthy dirty and wheels were buckled from storage. I sold the wheels last year for £90 on e bay to my surprise but am now curious if this bike has a following. It appears to be still original paint and graphics, and apart from a set of wheels I got in from the states to replace the shot ones it is all original just stripped cleaned and put back together, oh and a new 6 speed cog suntour, oh and new tyres. Do you think this is a bike that may attract interest on here as it has always been slightly to big for me 60cm frame 27" wheels

  • Very nice.
Lovely example in excellent original condition with a good, period correct (presumably original) groupset - Never seen a shorter with 27" wheels though - all the ones I've seen were built for 700c tubs)
Shorter Bikes have a cult following for 3 good reasons. Both Alan and Barry Chick were very decent craftsmen, they pushed the envelope in terms of weight and aerodynamics, Shorter bikes were used by some of the fastest riders this country has seen including Alf Engers and Stuart Dangerfield

  • Thanks for the information, I have taken off the pedals that came with it and spent hours clening them and the chrome toe clips that were attached, They ere Campagnolo and very nice now all cleaned that I put them on my Merckx.
I think from memory I was told by previous owner it is a 1970's ere bike,
