...and if you really really have to save money, get a puncture resistant tyre on the back and a cheaper one on the front, as you usually get more punctures on the rear wheel due weight distribution.

I've trained and raced on Rubino Pro for years and found them to be fantastically durable. For their price they're awesome. I think I used steel bead Rubino once and didn't think they were all that.
I've been using Durano Plus as they have even more rubber on them and with the miles I was doing it just made sense to try them out. No problems with these either.

I ride a section of regents canal everyday which is full of glass and have punctured all of the above at some point - nearly always the rear. The best combo I have found to date is a Re-fuse on the front (lots of grip). Spesh Amadillo (zero grip) on the rear - punctured once:

I have Luganos and found them a bit lacking in grip when I first used them. After a few weeks they seemed to bed in and have had no problems now. Was expecting to have to change them come winter but they have been fine so far.

Cheers for the advice, went for re-fuses in the end as they seemed to be pretty well liked on here, and they were a good price

Well in Miami it seems it's a city ordinance that once you are done drinking your beer, you must throw the bottle into the street. Just absolute drifts of broken glass everywhere.
Panaracer Ribmos 700x25c for daily driver use, and either Zipp Tangente or Torelli Torino open tubulars for the fast group rides.
I've really come to love high TPI casings for durability.
Maybe it's just the climate here, or just a bunch of Freds that don't take care of their shit, but I've seen way too many Bontrager hardcase tires separate the tread from the casing. -

Hi guys,
I'm looking for some new tires for my commuter bike - 700c, preferably fairly skinny but not at the expense of comfort/my wrists...
I used to have a pair of Vittoria Randonneurs on my old bike (which unfortunately got stolen (the whole bike, not the tires haha)), these were nice but a little wide and hard as hell to get on/off the rim! The puncture protection was real good though, so once they were on, it wasn't too much of an issue.
Ideally I'm just looking for something similar, maybe a bit easier to pop on and off and maybe a bit slimmer. I've heard good things about Gatorskins, but mainly from guys riding fixed - I'm not fussed about how well they hold up for skids, I just want good puncture protection!
Any suggestions guys? thanks in advance!

Schwalbe Durano Plus can take a lot of abuse / miles.
Think they've rebranded them as London tyres, but for puncture protection, they're the best I've used after years on gatorskins.

There are a million* threads about tyres on here.. search through some of them
*not actually a million
(for what its worth, Schwalbe tyres are great for London- a bitch to put on though)

Well thanks for generic "search" reply, like I didn't see that coming...
I actually did search, and didn't come across much that useful. Lots of for sale threads, this: http://www.lfgss.com/thread105137.html#post3543503 which is concerning fixed riders/skidding, and not a lot else. If I'm missing something, feel free to link to it.
Thanks for the suggestions also guys, much more useful. Keep 'em coming!

Maxxis refuse are indeed excellent, and easy to mount.
Bontrager racelite hardcase also good.
Gator hardshells are good but expensive.

They come in 23, 25, and 28mm.
Also tyres thread in lists of lists is probably one of the best:

I managed 18months riding around on 19c wafer thin slicks with no issue whatsoever, just ride like the wind and float over the broken glass.
If I was gonna buy tyres any time soon it'd be the Refuse, people seem to rate them and they're pretty cheap.
A cheap alternative is the £5 Duro Stinger cheapy tyres I bought from my old lbs in Finsbury. Think he did me the pair for £8, they've been on my tourer for over 3years, ridden in all weathers, ploughed through potholes/glass and thousands of miles, zero punctures. The logo is ugly though. -

If you want puncture protection you can also help yourself by keeping whatever tyres you choose properly inflated and regularly digging out bits of glass and flint that would otherwise knacker them in time.
