One finger braking bro. You'll get used to it and then never go back.
-
• #3
Go disc and just get used to it. Stops better in the wet, what not to like?
-
• #4
Yep, discs are just better.

Well set up (cable) discs do have a decent amount of modulation, so once you've trained your fingers to not just pull on that lever just as hard as they can then you'll love them.
hydro's are even better modulation wise, so yes, potentially much more power available, however, you'll rarely ever lock up or do an endo unless you wanted to. -

Or embrace the endo.

Ive got for a disc :) i've got the forks and just waiting for the hub to be delivered.
Next question is... which brake kit shall i buy? i like the look of the gussett chute, its cheap and its got good reviews. -

Avid BB7. There is an eBay seller from Hong Kong who does them for half price.
-
• #11

-
• #12
i've just looked, whats the deal with rotor size? bigger for the front or does it not matter?
-
• #13
Mose peeps are running 160mm rotors havent seen anyone with a larger one yet.
-
• #14

I ran 185mm on my Avid juicy but dropped to 160mm when I got a decent brake. 160mm is plenty.

FBO, man.

I'm considering getting rid of my BB7's and paul lever for a hydraulic FBO. Might sell soon but need the other brake first and have no money to get it. I have an old juicy knocking about so might see if i can get that running as a temporary job.
-
• #17
FBO?
I can't wait now, had a shit brake for far too long. -
• #18
Front brake only, sorry. Yeh front brake is the way forward, way less shit to deal with.
-
• #19
Shane i'll take the other BB7. I'll give you a text.

I'll sell you my white Juicy 3, 8 months use, hose never been detached. Also got some sparesintered pads and the ones in there only have 3 months use.

Just ordered some new deore from rose bikes. Just under £45 delivered and as they are weird and German you get a front brake with a left lever. Was going to get SLX as I know they are very nice but the only differences seem to be polo non issues, they are a touch heavier and don't dissipate heat as well as they can't take the finned pads, tests on power seem to be the same. Bargain.

Which means I have a BB7 caliper up for grabs, although it'll come with a rear adapter so you'll (probably) need a front one (could probably do with some new pads too). (The above deore brake needs an adapter too which is £9). Also have a paul duplex lever going.

Gonna keep hold of one BB7 as a tournament back-up brake.
-

B's Deore hydro feels super nice but I'm stillg etting used to the power of cable discs so doubt I'll make the shift anytime soon!

How much do you want for the bb7 sotters?
I'm running a front v on the most haggard wheel known to man.
I am going to change things up this weekend, but not sure if I should build a fresh chukker wheel, or use a decent disc rim that I already have in the shed and buy a cheap hub/ mech' disc brake kit?
I've never ridden discs, and people's bikes that I've tried with discs shit me up. Will I get used to the feel or just constantly get stem knee.
