• Back in the late 80s, I went to see a Chinese film called "The Horse Thief". It's about 90 minutes long and has maybe 8 lines of dialogue, split across two conversations at different points in the film. On the print I saw, whoever added the English subtitles had not been able to get them synched well. The subtitles for the first conversation turned up several minutes after the actual on-screen dialogue, so that we had to try and remember who had talked in which order. The second set of subtitles appeared a couple of minutes in advance, leaving us trying to remember what had been said so we could know what people were saying when they finally got around to it.

Hipsters weren't such a thing at the time or I'd have mega points for that. Wouldn't even need a stupid beard.

I used to be a projectionist for a local film society back in my yoof. There was one French film that was shot in black and white in a concrete industrial area.

White subtitles on a predomently white backgound mean it was unwatchable unless you spoke French...

I also was told by Barry Norman that I was an 'excellent projectionist for a 15 year old'! ^_^

    However I digress...

    On with the memes.
