  • Slightly off topic but I read an interesting piece in the Fortean Times on dowsing (many claimed the sucess rate/identifications with the 'bomb detectors' were down to dowsing).

I paraphrase a lot but it basically said that dowsing was bollocks but the sucess was down to the individual who woudl involuntarily twitch when they saw the thing they were looking for. For water they would look at a landscape and sub conciously take in the vegetation, the lay of the land and all other visual clues and be able to work out where water was likely to be. A bit like Ray Mears but with a coat hanger.

Same sort of thign applied here. You'd see somethign suss, rocks out of place, big wire leading to a canister saying 'bomb' and you'd signal that recognition with a twitch.

They linked it to studies that demonstrated that asking a person a question they knew but couldn't recall the answer that that person was more likely to answer it using a wijja (sp?) board as their unconcious mind workd better. Somethign liek that. I'm not explainign it well as I'm in a rush. But I'd never heard that take before on dowsing and it kind of made sense.
