  • Flawed. Like one of the commenters on the link say, it'll never pass the safety tests with all those metal pins near the wearer's skull. Plus, if the design if collapsible, it's a point of weakness. #fail

  • even if it is safe i dont see the point of it.

  • there really isn't much of a size difference between unfolded and folded ?
    don't understand the point ?

  • the point is that it changes colour. and changing colour is cool.

  • Perfect for people with folding heads.

  • What a shit idea.

  • Not such a bad idea. In Australia, helmets are compulsory. This is an easier way to comply with the law.

There's a guy who comes into out shop regularly, and he wears a cinelli hairnet, to get around this.

  • Looks utterly bizzare.

  • I can't really recall ever reaching for my helmet and thinking "damn I wish I could fold this thing in half"

... or not. I looked into this, but the Aussie law requires a australian standards-compilant helment(sic).

  • The concept is interesting but don't think the space saving will ever be enough to make an attractive proposition. Perhaps an inflatable helmet would work, or bicycle airbags. I'll get to work on that as soon as I've finished with the design for my soup slicing machine.

  • It could also work for those who want to ride Boris Bikes but would not do so without a helmet.

I am presuming that it comes up to minimum standards.

    You've been beaten to it.

  • i don't think it matters if it collapses from a functional point of view as a bike helmet is there to absorb the impact at whichever point it occurs, whether it's rigid or collapsible isn't such an issue as it's not acting in the same way as a wheel for example.

Anyways, it's a good idea - a folding helmet - but i don't think that's the best answer to the problem. It doesn't fold enough, looks a bit cluncky and i can't help thinking the best solution would have a bit more grace or wow about it.

But hey, what the hell do i know.

Yeah, this is exactly what I thought. The design-wanker in me would say that the passive state is no different to the active state, that is, it doesn't afford any new actions. In non-wanker terms it still doesn't fit into a pocket or a handbag.

If it folded down to the size of an apple, then it'd be useful (if it provided the same amount of protection as a normal helmet, that is).

  • I just lock mine to my bike through the vents. If it rains the pads get a bit wet but they soon dry out

  • Yes, but say it in more words.

  • more or less

  • Less, but better.

  • Doesn't look like it folds much smaller than full size :/
Just use a real helmet surely?
