  • Nah, I love my f2.8 17-35, and 1.8 would be handy. 24-70 is a bit too middle of the road for me. Never wide enough or long enough. Most of my work documentary/reportage at events, and often in low light too... IS isn't worth it for low light, it's not gonna stabilise my subject so never been much of an interest to me. Plus it eats up batteries.

  • That lenses looks awesome though. Seems like Sigma has been nicking Carl Zeiss stylings...

  • The delightful Calais.

  • Tidy! Love the colours, that's a really good shot.

  • Cheers!

  • Really nice composition.

  • Just came back to take another look at that shot, but flickr says it's unavailable. It's the third time I'm looking at it today, it's a cracker of a shot

  • Sorry, I re-uploaded it - adjusted the vertical perspective of the poles by a hair.

  • You definitely getting the hang of it, it look as if it's from a medium format camera.

  • How do you people decide how you want to edit? feel? I've got some work but I seem to change my mind every time I look at them

  • ^^Cheers Ed, I owe you one for pointing out the lens correction stuff.
MacReady, do you have a particular look in mind? Post some...

Ah, so it's lens corrected? Is that the magic trick? Def looks medium format, got that solid feel to it.

What camera if you don't mind me asking?

  • The lens correction is minimal, one increment with vertical perspective - its barely noticeable. There was some fiddling with highlights and lowlights to make the tones flatter, sorting the white balance and a bit of a crop but that's all.
The lens correction stuff is more important when things are closer.

    Camera is a 450D with a 50mm 1.8

  • How is this lens correction achieved?

  • Photoshop > Filters > Lens Correction... click on the "custom" tab on the right and its all there.

The same options are in Camera Raw too.

  • In Lightroom (4)?

  • same thing

  • Don't forget the distortion on the top too, and the line tools*.

*2nd box on the left is probably the best way to straighten an image by drawing a line on the photo and rotated automatically.

  • Sorry. Found it... should check before asking...

    Nice hair.

  • Well I just bought an X100. It's quite nice.

  • Agh, camera envy!

    I'm currently oogling a 6d with the 40mm 2.8....
