  • I ride my mountainbike.
    burn the heretic!

  • burn the heretic!

I know its odd, although I have to do something during the winter!

  • A race a race, fixed gear and singlespeed only. Meet on broad street at 1830 hrs on april the 27th, this will be a criterium format race so should be fairly heated racing and pretty fun to watch even if you dont fancy racing. The more the merrier so bring your friends, if people want to ride gears they can but there wont be any prizes gor geared racers.

Slight change of plans there will be three categories Fixed, SS and geared there will be prizes for the winner of each category there will also be wooden spoon for the very last rider. This will be being held on a very quiet peice of road in the arse end of cowley and the race will be around 5 miles long. I also recommend people bring helmets although they are not compulsory, lights on the other hand are compulsory no lights no race simple. lets make this a good one guys! Meet on Broad st at 1830 on saturday the 27th of april.

  • I can't make it, can you just post the wooden spoon to me?

  • which bike shop is burning on cowley road?

  • That bit at the bottom that says "no booze", what do they mean "no booze"?
no booing allowed, obvs. can't mean the other thing;; can it?

  • no booing allowed, obvs. can't mean the other thing;; can it?

Obv not F.O.B. that would be truly absurd.

  • Tru fact. and it was cycle king that burned down, so not a massive problem

  • Spotted: A guy and a girl both riding fixed or ss couldnt realy tell over magdelen bridge towards town today at about 5 Im the guy on the cinelli that was doing a skid going the other way.

That was either me or my brother, and his girlfriend. They only came to visit and have left already, I'm afraid. I might be on the Cowley Crit with a friend though.

  • Might what is this might, show your faces people!

  • Can I come and watch? I feel like practising my social skills. I'd ride but I'd definitely be depriving someone of a wooden spoon.

  • Just show up doesn't matter if you wanna watch or race. Its just as much about the socialness as the riding!

  • Hi all. Had my surly cross check stolen from Jericho over the weekend. Aksium wheels,105 groupset, raceface bar, stem, seatpost, fizik antares saddle. All black pretty much. The rear brake mount is bent really badly, so is easy to identify. If anyone spots it I'd be very grateful! Thanks

  • got any pics my mind works better with images

  • Here it is when it was singlespeed

This is the only geared pic I have

This is the rear brake mount. Fairly distinctive.....

If anyone offers you components or anything that are off this (the saddle is a Fizik now) please contact me!!

Is it safe to put my number on here?

  • Tonight is race night meet on broad street at 7pm!

  • So the race went off well even though there was only four of us actually racing. Thanks to everyone who turned up its you guys who make it an event. The next race is in the pipeline and details will be posted on here shortly. Watch this space.

  • Yeah it was awesome!! Keep em coming!!

  • heading to oxford for bank holiday...any tips for can't miss places for food/drink/coffee?

  • Coffee:
    Bikezone/Zappi's is pretty good.

Food: (this is ranked in my order of preference):
Edamame- if it is open-is up there with the best Japanese I've had in the UK (http://www.edamame.freeserve.co.uk/)

Random salad stuff- Alpha Bar in the covered market on Friday and Saturday for delicious but slightly pricey salad boxes...

G+D's Ice Cream is an absolute must.

Atomic Burger is amazing and quite cheap. http://atomicburger.co.uk/

The Trout Inn is pleasant on a sunny day if you can find a table outside- and the walk up Port Meadow to it is lovely anyways- though again a little pricey.

Mission Burritos are quite cheap and good.

Beer wise- you're not really short of pubs- but London prices are the standard...
I'd also recommend the Three Goats Heads for slightly lower prices...

You should also probably go punting if you've not been before.

    Hope that helps...

  • Food:
The Oxford Thai on Cowley Rd, more a cafe than restaurant but better for it. Note they only take cash (no cards)

Chian Mai Kitche, but you'll need to book
    http://www.chiangmaikitchen.co.uk/

    High Culture and food/drinks:
The Ashmolean Museum. Recently refurbished, just like a mini British Museum and V&A rolled into one but without the crowds. They have a roof top 'Dining Room'. I've heard that it's nice, but have never been, and also a cafe for drinks and snacks
    http://www.ashmolean.org/

The Natural History Museum is closed for renovation this year but you can still get into the Pitt Rivers Museum at the back. The PRM is small but stuffed with the most amazing anthropogical artefacts from around the world - no food or drink but def worth a visit.

and if you like your art modern try 'Modern Art Oxford' who also have a cafe - it'll probably be the closest you can get to (art) hipsters venue in Oxford?

    A walk in the park:
if it's nice weather a walk round Christcurch Meadow with an ice cream (as eyebrows says) from G&Ds http://www.gdcafe.com/website/index.php.

  • Thx - Love you guys!
If you see 4 girls, all about 5'5" walking around, DAS!

  • zappis cafe is average, if you want good coffee and food go to sofi de france cafe in the covered market. They serve the best coffee Ive had outside of Italy. Atomic burger is overpried, alpha bar is very good though. If you want good beer fairly cheap head to the lamb and flag Ill probably be in there.

  • Go to Pieminister in the covered market, it's the mutt's nuts (I recommend the Heidi Pie). And Red Star if you're down the Cowley Road.

I'm also selling some bits if anyone in Oxford's interested - http://www.lfgss.com/thread105726.html
