That is interesting - i would love to see pics. I presume yours has the same fork crown as mine. The braze on is for the race plate. Have you found any serial numbers? Check the forks if you don't find any on the frame (there may be numbers on the rear chainstay). Also, do your cables run through the BB shell? My frame is all hex tubing.
