What's the hairy legs reference too?
If you aren't shaving your legs you aren't taking it seriously enough?
Maybe.

Has anyone tried these? http://www.majortaylor.co.uk/products/caratti-gloves
Sold out, but I though they were doing some "custom order" ones. That seems to have disappeared. -

^^ Mands those mitts often turn up on ebay. We hired Herne Hill Velodrome for my son's birthday party in September, and bought 15 pairs of those for his friends on the bay at 3 quid each. Have a look there. At that price they were a steal, and they are pretty nice. Only available in small sizes though.
Maybe send him an email and see if he has any left.

Hey erik, not undestanding the posting of that picture... the insinuation im/people there are fat nodders sitting down to watch roubaix?!
hah sorry man my English is a bit broken at times. I meant that to be saddened by a bunch of dudes with matching cycling kits is hilarious if you live in a country (England) where the national sport is Football where spectators drunk off their asses congregate on stadiums in team kits munching on sausages.

Is it not in Germany they eat sausages?

Yes, it is pies in England. That is the problem with people who generalise, they always get it wrong.

Jerseys and base layers would be better eg. But even then I don't agree. Until Torm I wasn't aware of any merino wool blend jerseys other than Rapha (maybe that's just marketing/my awareness). Since then the only other ones I've seen are just as expensive.
Aside from the retro issues--- Castelli did some, Pearl Izumi did an exceptionally good one--- the market never really stopped offering wool jerseys. The German company Gonzo made all their jerseys using wool and then a Merino mixed fibre up through the 1980s. Swabo has been doing Merino since the early 1990s--- one of their first products. Over the past 10 years it seems that the market has exploded with loads of lifestyle brands offering retro-designs... and a lot of Merino...
Good merino base layers all tend to cost similar amounts and there aren't really many options cheaper than Rapha.
Merino base layers have been around for about as long as Merino wool.
The best Merino base layer I got from a small family owned and operated company in Greece--- the small factory is located right behind their shop (some of the machines date from before electrification). Quality second to none--- my Zimerli and Hanro are rags by comparison-- at a fraction of the price. -

And one can purchase these Greek base layers from the convenience of a computer for delivery to ones home or office?

The best merino wool is Australian so those Greeks must've been taking a break from their homes in Aussie land to sew undershirts...

The wool they use is Merino imported from.... Australia!
I asked why they don't use Greek wool and their answer was that the Merino wool they get from Australia is so much better for the application than anything they can get in Greece, Europe or anywhere else. -

You mean pasties and variations of anything filled with and/or fried-in lard.

Base layers are base layers. They dont need to be cycling specific. In my experiance merino has crap abrasion resistance. So paying out for quality of finish is a waste of time. What you get for your extra dorrah, is higher wool content, and less itch. I always buy Devold. The factory is across the fjord from me. The thin 'aktiv' range is light, but very effective. My kids probably have 5 full sets for everyday use, each.
I've never considered the Rapha base-layers over priced. Assuming its of the same quality.
If your wool addict. Ground Effect of NZ has some interesting kit containing merino together with windproof layers. The style is more millets, than mount ventoux though.

Any of the picey but nice crowd have any thoughts on the Assos T Roubaix FI. Mille Knickers?
My aged knees dont like the drafts.
-
• #12049
I don't think the Roubaix FI is available any more - AFAIK it's a choice between the TK434 and the TK607 for Assos 3/4 knickers. I've got a couple of pairs of the TK434 for keeping my aging knees warm, and bloody nice they are too. The only oddity I find is that while I'm a size large in Assos shorts, I'm an XL in 3/4s and bib tights. But no hesitation in recommending the TK434s.

They're like £65 here at the moment. I need a pair of bibs, as I just chucked a pair, and my Castellis are a bit shite these days.
I cant really remember wearing normal bibs last summer. Roubiax shorts at best. I have knee warmers to go with these. But I'd be a load more comfortable without the double layer over my awesome thighs.
