Reposting the original because I want to.

^^ I sometimes tire of the identikit HHSB orthodoxy - there's something quite nice about the more eccentric builds with vintage steel frames and dubious chainset or wheel choices
^ wicked - is that an OLED wrap or something on the seatpost

Tynan was/is a creative genius.

If I hadn't been having lunch at the time I would have asked the guy to take it out for a spin.

yep...believe it or not, those pic's of tynan's bike are about 4 years old. he was pretty on it. EL has it's place but comes with its own headaches...power supplies, inverters, etc. OLED's are the future but just aren't quite ready yet...they offer low power/no inverter possibilities. however, the cost of EL makes it very accessible if one is creative and knows a thing or two about practical electronics, which i don't. EL also 'flickers' (i.e. the inverter) but obviously at a frequency too high for the eye to detect. the upside being that 'lightsabre' look.

I've been out of the loop on this for a while, I did a little bit of work with Osram on OLEDs back in 2007, certainly looked like the future then, I like the idea of OLED ceilings for gentle diffused daylight - I'd always dismissed EL as being purely for Cyberdog jackets.... but that got me thinking. The link I posted had AAA battery powered inverters too so it doesn't need to be too nerdy a project!

impracticality is swallowable, its just the fact that you are riding a disc wheel on the street

The only things classier are the wheels.
