I think 48x17 is slightly higher that 42x15 but not much different, still, a good all rounder, it's what I used on my fixed tour through France. I've got 48x18 on one of my bikes and find that to spiny. I think 48x17 would be a nicer gear.

After looking on Sheldon Brown seems 48x18 is spinier than what I was on before, will get than chain shortened in hopefully stick with 48x17.
Nice project the finish looks great, if you still need SRAM levers I have some I could sell you.
