Not to mention hybrid make excellent touring bike as the only thing you need to do is put rack and mudguard on if it doesn't come with it, a £300 Specialized Sirrus is more than enough to go touring.
I decided not to get a custom touring bike, if I were to go, I'd just buy a hybrid, do it up a bit and go out rather than spending thousands and some time waiting for a Roberts Roughstuff that would be amazing but not entirely Necessary.
The best tour are the spur of the moment one (IMHO of course).
