It's ironic that he's banned from Olympic competition for life, and yet he's an IOC member. Then again, the IOC makes the UCI look good...

This saddens me more than angers me. But I'm still very angry.

Had no idea how much of a knob he is.
A man with zero conscience. -

Cycling Ireland have just nominated him for a third term in UCI.
Truly disgusted.Ashamed to be Irish today -

Did you really expect any other outcome?

It's official:
Every professional cyclist is allowed to compete whilst doped up to the eyeballs and will not be punished and can keep all the prize money.
May all prospective sponsors for the sport be aware that you will be funding cheats, liars and "athletes" with no morals whatsoever.
That should do it...

I hope Greg Lemond applies, he had mentioned he would as an interim president, and he called for McQuaid's dismissal so he might step up to the plate to prevent Pat from taking over again.

^ Me too for LeMond. He seems keen for the sport to do well, unlike others.

A lot of people are massive hypocrites if they condemn this that harshly.
Unless you are fierce activists for moral upstanding in every aspect of daily life, we all end up contributing to shady regimes and evil deeds here and there.
So in my opinion, this gets nothing but a big 'meh.

Armstrong shat on everyone and cost people careers whilst doping to the nines.
Eleven former team-mates of Armstrong testified against him to USADA, receiving six-month bans. These suspensions were also ratified by the UCI, which thanked the riders for giving evidence. The penalties dished out by the USADA & UCI are beyond laughable for the "team-mates" whom dished the dirt on LA and got off with an off-season ban.
LA was a big cash-cow for the sport and the UCI where happy to flow with the dough until he was caught. Pat McQuaid and others raced in South Africa at the height of Apartheid.
He has also done jack-shit for women's cycling because there is little money involved in that side of the sport.
I don't think this is anything to do with being a "fierce activists for moral upstanding". Personally, I just want a decent bloke or gal to govern the sport and kick out the cheats and bent doctors for good.
He should walk away from the sport.
Quickly.

I thought everyone was in uproar because he competed as a cyclist in Apartheid South Africa.
Best ignore my comment in relation to his recent professional work.
-

I think finding out about the Apartheid thing really just cemented the impression that I already had that he's a massive dickbag.

which shows a deep paranoia in McQuaid.Thatcher finally went mad after too long in power. Blair was a swivel-eyed loon from the start, but got dramatically worse as time went on. Now McQuaid has outed himself as completely barking. Do the American know how much entertainment they are missing out on by having a 2 term limit for presidents?

First rat has just jumped off the sinking ship:
http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/mike-plant-publicly-ends-his-support-of-pat-mcquaidAlthough if you had to pick somebody with even less credibility than Fat Pat, it would have to be anybody who has been such an insider in US cycling for the past couple of decades.

A perfect example of the aggressive, elitist, self-serving, greedy, myopic, fascistoid stupidity exhibited by people who make a living from professional sport.
Just sayin.

^^ Love the cry of 'Putain!' just after the crash. Don't hold back now, Monsieur.

after everything cycling has been through, are you shitting me?

I know he won't release details of his salary but it must be very good if he's so desperate not to lose it that he'll so openly prostitute himself....

He's an utterly disgusting worm.

“There was nothing stopping Brian Cookson from showing an interest in cycling around the world over the years by joining other federations that would have allowed him to secure additional nominations when he decided to stand for President. I respect that his horizons however do not stretch much further than British Cycling and that his home is where his heart and ambitions as a Presidential candidate lie.”
A new level of cuntard has been defined.

reckon he has got some big skeletons in the closet he needs to keep hidden, and clinging onto power by any means necessary, and leaving cycling with zero credibility in the process is probably the only way he can stop them coming out.
If he does manage to stay in power cycling will be blown away with breakaway leagues forming by various agencies tired of the UCI's. Unfortunately it may be the death knell of some of Europe's older races.

Well, it never occurred to me that he merited his own thread like Lance but having just read this very well written blog
on his South African apartheid adventures that actually disqualify him from Olympic competition for life, I feel that yes, Pat McQuaid, aka Jim Burns, deserves to have a nice little lfgss shrine to his horrible little self.
For all things that reflect JimPat's asshole nature.
Enjoy.
