^^ I don't watch live TV on it though, so I don't need one. The licence fee system is farcical in these days of media fragmentation and online TV on demand. As much in need of reform of the licence fee itself. It's effectively unenforceable - the detector vans never actually existed, they were trojan horses, and the inspectors don't have a legal right to enter your property to check what equipment you have/how you are using it. There are people who use TVs just for watching DVDS, don't have a TV licence and this seems to be possible without breaking the law. The law was designed for an era when possessing a screen meant watching live TV through an aerial.
I'd scrap it, and I'd be quite tempted to scrap the BBC as well if it was my choice, or at least massively reform it.
To be fair to the BBC, the Nick Griffin case is quite different. However distasteful we find their views, the BNP has democratically elected politicians. Censoring them because you don't like their views really would be the start of a slippery slope.
