any recommendations for editing software? Could do with being free and not shit, so that rules out Microsoft Live as it is the most tedious piece of cock ever, and crashes more regularly than Indra! I just trialled AVS editor but the freebee puts a logo mid screen which also sucks monkey balls.
Tell me what you use

I just use iMovie for throwing shit together.
I also have Final Cut Pro, after effects and a couple of others but never been bothered to learn how to use any properly. There are ways to get them all for free, I did.

The Kodak "PlayFull" turned up this morning.
First impressions are good- it's solidly built, has a built in (full size!) USB plug for connecting to a laptop, and the menu system is logical and comprehensive.
To enter start recording you press the large red button on the face of the camera, which means that in order to use it to record a ride you'd have to make (something along the lines of) a fabric holster that one puts the camera into after record has been pressed.
I got a 32Gb card for ~£15, which gives a frankly huge recording time.

Wow, quick delivery!
Please share the battery life performance. Looking on you tube, video footage comes out pretty well. Low light is not great.
Will need to order one myself.

£129 from Sport pursuit http://www.sportpursuit.com/sales/contour-waterproof-camera/contour-roam-camera-watersports-kit
PM me your email for £10 signup voucher.

Is that the original Roam, or the Roam2?
Tempted by it...
-
• #211
It's the Contour Roam (original) Watersports.
Sport Pursuit is NOT the cheapest place to get this, and you don't have to buy it as a group.
Sport Pursuit has surfaced a few times on this site and each time I've compared the deal I've found the item cheaper elsewhere on a standard sale basis. It seems like a lot of people here are being suckered by a "daily deal" marketing thing.
I mean... it's cheaper at Wiggle:
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/contour-roam-watersports-kit/And most people would already have additional Wiggle discount codes to make it cheaper still.
It you're tempted... just buy it from somewhere cheaper and still reputable.

That said... Evans and a few other places no longer do this package as it's been discontinued (end of line).
I'm of the view that Sport Pursuit are pretty shady in the way they represent things. Selling an end of line product as a new bargain and exclusive daily deal when it's cheaper elsewhere and they fail to mention it's end of line status.

I used this for the first time today, it seems very good.
It generated a 2.8Gig file of my commute this morning- how do I go about putting up a bit of that so that people can see what the quality is like, using web based tools?

Fuck, that's rubbish. Sod them then. unsubscribes

I believe you can edit videos within Youtube. Might have a problem with the 2.8GB file though
-
• #218
Can you not edit on your phone?
-
• #219
Transfer the 2.8Gb from the camera to my phone?
-
• #220
Oh is that not your phone on the bag? My mistake.
I'm assuming you are on a PC, in which case:

Nope, that's the camera itself.
I cannot download anything- work machine that is locked down.

Here we go- the worlds longest boring ride video:
-
• #223
32:58 wtf is that
-
• #224
This is the return home, again tres dull- this time run through the ArcSoft MediaImpression software that comes with the camera in order to reduce the file size by ~30%.
It's still 2 Gig however.

Does the camera not have built-in image stabilisation? It seems quite jumpy.
How different is the Go Pro in appearance to a phone shaped camera?
http://gp1.pinkbike.org/p4pb5875094/p4pb5875094.jpg
I agree that in terms of mounting Go Pro offers heaps of good accessories. And the traditional cycle tube shaped cameras look better.
However, the specs just seem so much better on this min cam corders. You could always mount this camera on your chest/shoulder/handle bars. Not ideal (versus head mounted) but a potential workaround.
Go Pro Hero 2:
720p = 1280x720 pixels (16:9), 30 fps or 60 fps
Kodak Zx1:
720p HD 30 or 60fps
The Kodak waterproof camera start at £30.
Battery life and storage space is also much better on the cam corders. Unsure about the lenses but likely to be digital zoom, so comparible to cycle cams. Low light shots also look good from some Youtube postings.
To me the cycle cams feel like a gimmick, apart from the mounting.
