It's 1000d Nylon (cordura), so it wont ever need retreating. It's backed with PU nowadays (as opposed to PVC) and this is done right here in the UK by a company up north. It's the coating that really give it it's strength, and It will repel water as described. Water does roll off when you spray it, but it's a bit different to treated canvas in a way that it can appear wet, but there's no chance of any water going through to the other side.
Regardless, its protected by a second heavy duty floating tarp liner!
