Sorry but the students are just trying to follow in the footsteps of my generation of students from the 1970s and 80s.. it was the Anarcho and new left movements in the 1970s that helped overthrow the military dicatorship.. It was not about money but freedom and the risks were real.. It was the uprising at the Polytechnic in 1973 that brought down the Junta... and it was the students that tried to make a new Greece... And the current struggle? Seems more about trying to regain the status quo of before the collapse--- an economy driven by corruption--- rather than a new better Greece..
Oh do fuck off with your tiresome one upmanship, every generation has its struggle

Not quite as much a struggle as mine though.

Be nice, this is the only thread where Jeez has seemed a reasonable human being, what with the hateful bile at a dead old cow.

On a side not I have played croquet with Gordon Brown on three occasions.
If you knew me you would know that Gordy and I having a quick round is a far more distressing and evil enterprise for any politician to embark on than anything thatcher did. But boy can he skull a Pims.

Why all the anti liverpool stuff from people?
really riles me.Because these people are ignorant cunts, possibly?
Not only are they happy to 'bring some levity' by ridiculing the victims of political crime rather than the perpetrators, they also fail to see their 'jokes' are a damaging cultural stereotype that's blossomed in part due to the attitude shown by Thatcher et al towards Liverpudlians (and the rest). Poke them from a safe distance with a stick and watch them squirm.
What's fucking depressing is the number of people around who are Thatcher's children without even knowing it.

To all those people who tell me that I should respect Thatcher because she was a first female PM - it's like cheering up for Saville for fixing it for FEW. Good fucking riddance.

Margaret Thatcher is dead. Her policies as prime minister ruined the lives of millions of people. Now her political heirs are trying to extend the damage she did in ways she only dreamed of.
The great political task before all of us is to ensure they fail. We need to make sure Thatcher's legacy dies with her.

How typical. 40yr old+ man tells old "cool stories" and makes sweeping assumptions about the youth.
Of course you meant it ironically...
Didn't you use to be a banker? Albeit a junior banker.

John Craven was the first person to report on TV that Thatcher had been elected leader of the Tories. He told me that over a pint...

Top bloke, that Craven

Looking forward to Rod Liddle next Sunday, after he managed two diatribes in the Times this week on how tough it is being white and middle class in Britain these days. But I digress...

When I first heard that Ted Heath was responsible for the tune 'Johnny One Note', used as the opening theme to John Craven's Newsround, I assumed it was the Tory ex-PM.
Anyway, it wasn't :/

How many of you actually endured under Thatcher's reign as PM? Surely most of the people posting on this thread were either a twinkle, in the womb, or filling their nappies'?
I did, I was there.
Never forgive, never forget.
The current incarnation are just as bad.
Remember to vote, come the election.

Neil Kinnock managed to give her a nice obituary (without saying any vulgar words).

Christmas - reading this thread you'd get the impression every one grew up in a small colliery town in South Yorkshire.

Although I thought him a ginger cunt, have met him a few times over the last decade and he is a top bloke, always got the impression loonies in his own party did for him more than anything else.

Because she undoubtedly fucked over the miners and the North, but to give a shit about it you'd have to have been directly affected?

I did, I was there.
Never forgive, never forget.
Death of old age was too good for her.
She should have died, cold, lonely, hungry, frightened and in pain.
The current incarnation are just as bad.
Remember to vote, come the election.
If it's any consolation for you she was possibly lonely, hungry, I doubt she was cold as you'd at least expect the heating to be on at The Ritz, when she realised she was having a stroke she was very probably frightened and no doubt in pain.
When it's your time (hopefully not for a long time) I hope you pass in your sleep, painlessly, and gently. Peace.
