  • СПОРТ, means sport in russian lol

  • Anybody knows what Universal model this is? And is this form of pantography common? Only ever seen it on Ciocc models.

  • ^^ Peugeot catalogues here
    http://www.cyclespeugeot.com/Catalogs.html

it's a 70's one anyway :) but details like fork crown, lug pattern, chrome, simplex ends should help zero in model.

very hard to know if it's top end (PX10)
    or low end U-08 etc...

  • Hey all, I am after information on identifying and dating this frame I picked up a month ago. The bike came in a rattle can blue, over a yellow (not sure if original) which I have begun to remove. The person I picked it up from mentioned it was from Belgium made in the late 60s to mid 70s. It is a steel frame, with long point, cut out lugs, even on the rear brake bridge. The rear drop outs are Campagnolo, chromed, and the chrome only makes it way up the stays about 2-3 inches. and the non-drive side drop out has what looks like a "1 0 2" stamped onto it. But upon closer inspection, the "1" could be something else, a letter or other mark. Picks here :http://www.flickr.com/photos/anvilcycles/sets/72157633148964333/

  • hey, I just got donated this frame due to a crack in the seat tube. I was going to cut it up and make a bamboo bike, but I think it could be a repainted colnago that would be worth getting fixed.... any ideas what it is and what it is worth? It has campag dropouts and a cinelli bottom bracket. Also all of the lugs feature this triangle shape which i think is colnago but i'm not sure.

  • not a Colnago lug shape, more likely Reynolds 531 than columbus. If bb threads are British, it is going to be 531 probably.

why shouldn't it be a Joe Waugh?

  • It's not a repainted Colnago, but its probably an original Dave Yates. You could email him and ask. info@daveyatescycles.co.uk

  • Some useful info for Nag spotters here.

With Campag dropouts and a Cinelli BB it's no donkey whatever it is and I wouldn't be cutting it up.

What size seatpost does it take? That will give you an idea of the quality of the tubes.

  • ^+1 Agree with every word.

Looks like there's a 531 sticker on the seattube too - fairly sure it's 531 then, but the seatpost size will tell you whether it's butted

  • Joe Waugh was a brand of M Steel cycles of Newcastle, whose chief builder was Dave Yates. Unless you think it is a DIY repaint with replica stickers, the frame was either made by, or repainted by Dave.

Those top eyes are more like Dave's than Colnago which tended to be rounded, not wraparound, and lug cut outs were club shaped.. Also, the Colnago name tended to be on the frame somewhere.

There are some photos of a repainted Colnago earlier in this thread, about a page back showing typical top eyes and lugs.

  • The sticker says "531 renovated" which is what made me think it may not be a Joe waugh. Not sure of the seat post size due to the tube being so damaged tbh. Might send him an email, quite interested now! The paint job does seem very very good though

  • The sticker does imply a repaint, though why anyone would put Joe Waugh transfers if it wasn't one, I don't know. It was hardly a major brand. Except in Newcastle, maybe.

Email Dave Yates, send him some pictures and he'll probably know if he built it or not. He'll even fix it if you want.

    I'm quite interested too, now.

  • If it was a knock-off, it would be stupid to draw attention to the fact by using a renovated" decal.

What made you think it was a Colnago? Difficult to see any reason why this isn't a Joe Waugh that has been legitimately repainted and labelled accordingly.

  • The only reason I brought this up was because a friend of mine at my lbs said it looked like a colnago, and I wanted to check to see if it was worth saving and whether I would need to get different decals etc if I do get it done up. I reckon he's probably wrong considering the responses! I'll email Dave Yates and get back

  • Those cut-outs in the lugs were just a neat way to lighten the frame a little.

Looks nothing like a colnago (sorry) But will be 'just as good' as a colnago.

    531 / cut out lugs / campy dropouts - classic g.weigh features.

(Plus a colnago would have an italian bb)

  • Front lamp?

  • ^yea, definitely a front lamp

  • Front lamp?

is a modern front lamp run on batteries made to look like an old dynamo style, come with crème bikes, not too sure whether you can get them in shops but if you have a word with crème distributer Hotlines Uk, they would sort you out

Almost certainly a JW - from what I can tell, it has the same lugs / top eyes / bb shell / cable routing as my gf's 653:

Joe Waugh's are excellent frames, and they only just started selling repro decals on ebay, so timing-wise you're in luck for a full JW refurb! : )

Do you have the forks as well?

  • No forks unfortunately! I'm still trying to get a quote from a local builder, but if it is reasonable I daresay I'll go for it. Only problem is I have 3 geared bikes already, I'll have to sell at least 2 before I do anything to it.
