Backwards cycling

  • Hi guys,

I'm trying to learn to cycle backwards and wondered if anyone has a few tips? I can go maybe one full revolution of the cranks and then I lose it. I think it's just that it feels so unnatural I can't get my balance right. Any advice?

  • not what you like to hear but.... practicepracticepracticepractice

  • I am shit at it and have been practice practice practicing. Lol. Took me ages on the BMX aswell.

  • Yeah, I think I'll just spend an hour or so every day trying it. Was looking for some tips, but I suppose there are no shortcuts

  • Nah. Lean back, arms straight, flowing cadence and try to keep the fro t wheel inline with the frame.

  • After a while you'll get the hang of it: LiveLeak.com - Riding a Bicycle Backwards down a bendy road.

  • Then, after a little longer, you get to this stage:

  • When I started out riding backwards, I just found an open space like a basketball court, put my seat down a little so I could touch the floor with my feet and scooted backwards and I found the balance point in like 2 days, worked well for me

  • So when you guys are talking about backwards cycling, do you mean like fakie or sitting on the bars?

  • impressive!
