  • So now lowering tyre pressure is better for faster rides? You're not helping.

lower tyres pressure = less rolling resistance*

    *even less with wider tyres.

  • only to a certain point.

  • but at a point wouldn't the tyre fold on in on it self creating more resistance?

wider rim makes sense, less pressure dosn't

The wider rims allowed you to drop it even more.

A lots of people nowadays run a silly high pressure like 120psi on their bicycle rather than an acceptable 100psi* (23c), this is what I forget to add in my original comment.

Having your tyres rock hard will not yield lower resistance let alone comfort.

    *unless you're a fattie.

  • Depends on tyre size though? would of thought a 19c pumped up real hard hardly has any contact with the road, which kind of dose the opposite of a wide rim? giving the tyre very little friction?

This is of course entirely dependent on the initial tyre pressure and also miles beside the point. You clearly fail to understand the situation and your attempts to mask it aren't doing you a lot of favours.

  • Fucking hell, not this shite again.

  • Join the resistance.

I'm typically running 155psi on clinchers and considerably higher on tubulars for normal road racing. Weighing in at 90kg this morning I suppose that technically I fall into the "fattie" category as I'm arguably heavy despite the fact that I'm rather tall and by no means fat as such.

Admittedly high tire pressure do not yield a particular comfortable ride, and may occasionally need to be lowered depending on the quality of the road surface. I'm however somewhat puzzled how you can claim, if I understand you correctly, that lower tire pressure let alone wider rims in general will not affect rolling resistance???

I should add, that I run 22mm clincher rims with 23c tires, and 21mm tubular rims with 22c tubular tires respectively.

  • Lynchman, you're lightweight at only 90kg for your height.

Think about it, you're probably half a foot taller than me, drink lots of beer and only weigh just over 10 kg more.

  • ^Nerged for calling me lightweight.

  • Ok I'm sure you can consume much alcohol and crack cocaine without feeling it.

  • ^Nerged for calling me lightweight.

    Physically, not emotionally.

  • who knows.

  • wow those road forks actually look pretty good.

  • I was a fan of them on my build too, slightly distrust them now though.

  • Only if we know that they actually did fail.

Mine withstand a crash twice, obviously should've thrown them away.

  • How did it happen?

You should but honestly wether or not it was the forks doesn't matter so much once it's happened, it's made me weary about all that stuff now.

Look out Ed, I'm sure you already know that it's not nice to have a fork failure but I will say it again, you won't feel silly for dropping £100 for new forks if yours fail and you end up in A&E.

    How did it happen?

    Don't really know, something failed.

  • Indra probably best to stop going round telling people to buy new forks because yours failed when you don't know that they were actually what failed. You were blaming the wheel at first.

Kerob has had a few knocks with his and they're still standing

  • It would be a concern if they're a common issue that occured like the Sugino Messenger crankset snapping, but as far as I know, your were the worse and only case of a failure whose fault can't be determined.

  • I told ed to buy new forks because he said they had been in 2 crashes, is it not responsible of me?
I'd never tell anyone that try were shit but you're supposed to replace carbon when you crash it.
