By "bed in" I guess they mean wear to fit the knackered cassette, which is not the route I would want to go down! 8 speed cassettes are still available, although I think it's normally the Record ones that are around. Just had a quick look and they are about £30 from Wiggle, CRC, etc.

I think you could get one of these http://jtekengineering.com/shiftmate.php and then use a shimano cassette. See also Sheldon Brown's website.

^ you'd need a new wheel to take the Shimano cassette .. or assuming the freehub body can be changed, a new freehub and probably the wheel redished.

^ yes you're right. I'd forgotten about that.

8 spd record would work, and is the only one to my knowledge Campag still make.
Although Miche do make campag 8 spd cassettes as well, so could be worth a look at.There is a possibility though that the cassette and chain might just not be compatible, if they didn't think to check they work together properly it may well be that they have put the wrong chain on.
That Shiftmate thing posted further up is to alter the pull ratio of a shifter, it wouldn't affect the compatibility of campag and shimano cassettes and mechs.
Also for what its worth I wouldn't go back to any bike mechanic that puts a new chain on a old cassette and tells you it will bed in!! Definitely not something that would ever happen in our workshop!

8 speed record will work, and will work beautifully.

I've used Miche 8 speed Campag compatible cassettes and they work fine. Also available in a slightly wider ratio than Campag ones if you're looking for lower gears. I ran a 13-28.
+1 to avoid anyone who says the chain should "bed in". Absolute rubbish. If it's not meshing properly with the old cassette then the old cassette is worn and shouldn't be used with the new chain.

I think Ambrosio might still make an 8 speed campag cassette too...
Hi Guys,
Just got my bike back from my LBS, and am now experiencing chain 'slip' under load. The result of a new chain on an old (but not worn) cassette. I was told that the chain shd. bed-in - but not feeling very comfortable on it, as it stands ...
Can anyone suggest a compatible replacement? I'm sure that they are no longer made, so would I need to buy NOS?
To my best understanding, it is an early 90's Campag Veloce 8-speed Ergo groupset.
If I have missed anything, pls. yell.
Any and all help gratefully received!
