LBS vs Online stores

Would it be better if stock was reduced to small parts in crates out the back to get if needed (maybe carrying a wider stock than they do now to increase ability to do repairs quickly, parts available to view on screens instore) and bikes available for test rides? Is it really worthwhile having rows of brand new built bikes sitting there for months on end taking up £200 per annum of rent in floor space?
