• Anyone know a carpenter who could give me a quote and maybe replace a door frame ?

Would ideally be in the next three days.

I'm moving and one of the frames has a bit of damage to it, that I don't want to be stung for by the agent.

    Im in Islington.

PM me if you can help.

    cheers!

  • Not in London so not massively helpful but...

Replacing a doorframe is major work. Like you really don't want to do if you can help it as it'll damage the surrounding plaster etc...
If it's just damage to the frame edge or the door stop then it should be easy and fairly cheap. A split can also be fixed but obviously more work.

  • Not in London. But as a student ..

I've bodged and run away from some damage before using a small tub of wood filler to build a section of edge that got knocked off the frame work back up, a sheet of sandpaper to shape the filler to the original contour once it was dry and a splash of paint all around the frame ..

    I didn't suggest that though ;)

  • It's from having a pull up bar on it - kind of mashed the wood.
I had planned to poly filler it, and sand it to match - but not sure that would be up to scratch...

  • It should be good if you paint the whole frame.

If you want it to dry quicker use car body filler. I use it a lot in work. Not cheap for a small repair though.

  • What the other guys said .. let us see a picture but my thoughts is you can bodge that .. and it'll be cheaper then replacing it!

Just use a few thin fills over a series of evenings .. you need to let it dry without srinking and one big fill will shrink .. to build up just above the surface of the original wood.

Use this. It's the same as car body filler and it's used by carpenters for filling screw and nail holes before painting. You might even want to chisel out a bit, or certainly remove the paint, to key it in, as it probably won't hold as well in a wide shallow depression.
