Hold your nerve on the triple crank arm, I'm sure it'll be fine. The black one I was using originally on this frame was a Shimano 400LX Triple and I didn't even bother chopping the granny-bosses off either
(I gave that Chainset & BB to my sister in law so I should be able to confirm the axle length - I'll get back to you with it)
