Obviously, the correct answer is to grow up and get the best sprocket (i.e. Phil), not the one that matches your colour prejudice. If you must colour it, you could go for Graphit-iC which is hard wearing, low friction and dark grey. Other options are TiCN and ED black oxide, as seen on spokes. As the Phil sprockets are stainless steel, they don't have any existing coatings to remove before treatment.
