Going to check and clean everything before riding it anyway, which means clean the brakes and all too. Needs to go to garage for paint touch up too, in this climate you can't leave anything bare.

BTW found a 1982 SR groupset for a good price. And a ciocc panto stem/seatpost, now have to hope they fit as the seatpost is pretty short and the stem pretty long.
Currently up to arms in autosol and grease cleaning everything out.

I have a San Christobal built by CIOCC but branded for Tom Crowther (Mercian) mine dates from 1981. Some photos in the link although its had a few updates since they were taken.

Ah seen yours before when Flickr-ing (That doesn't sound as good as Googling...) it's lovely :) Can't beat stamped crown forks, what do you use to protect chrome?
I heard Vaseline is good, as water sets in those stamps which then get under the chrome and starts Trouble. Fork on mine needs rechromed at some point, it's shot on top.
Mine doesn't have lug lining and lugs seem to have a slightly different shape. Will post more pictures nearer the time and throw in some higher res ones.

You can't beat chrome lugs either, I must have magpie dna because I can never resist a nice bit of chrome!
I think the Christobal had a few revisions over the years. You've probably come across it, but there's an amazing one on the Ray Dobbin's website and that has slightly different detailing.

I just wax mine with autoglym although it only goes out when the weather is perfect. As you can imagine, that isn't a lot!

I've seen that show one, it's pretty amazing...and borderline obscene with its gold lugs ;)
The awkward moment when the early 80s alu cups Campagnolo headset doesn't fit...too high. Sigh, off to find another one. Typical n00b mistake as it came off a bigger frame and I didn't check.

LE Pics. Getting there, need SR brake levers/hoods and a left pedal or pedal axle as it's FUBAR.
The hubs on bike I got are toast too. Luckily lfgss had some lovely wheels.

A little update for those who care: Found SR levers, a spare set of wheelsies which is always good, a nice Regal perforated saddle.
Now for some 38 cm handlebars, either Hilary or Flea/EvilBay (as I asked here but no joy) and Continental Sprinter tubs and off we go.
What do you guys think of seatpost? The paint has all gone, fluting was yellow and logo black after somebody polished it. Should I repaint, re-anodise/repaint or just leave it?

Off to the model shop then for some Humbrol enamel paint, that works really well. It does take many layers maybe the shop knows another paint.
BTW Cobalt Blue Humbrol comes in two metallic colours, mixed this makes an excellent match on Cobalt blue bikes. Won't cover in one layer, but better than silver Hammerite look... :)

Ciocc has a FB page btw and Pelizolli World (original owner) helps you with getting info on frame, deffo friendly crowd.
They are selling reproductions of these too, alas £1200 in UK....and 500 grams lighter for F&F that shows steel came a long way too in 35 years.

I've had good experience with e-bay there's one guy there that sells small / big jars in any colour. Well, quite a few can't remember which seller it was, but you can get any colour from e-bay in the post.
I am in Belfast Norn Ire train model shops generally sell the stuff here. There may still be a model plane/train shops near your way?

More bits. Ordering Cinelli CDM bars from Hilary, e-bay really not much cheaper than him in my size (38)
Continental Sprinter tubs with cement ordered. So hopefully weekend after next I can take it out.
I do need to swap a pedal spindle...need a very narrow adjustable spanner/cone spanner for that. Which I don't have. Le sigh.

Alas I can't find some parts (panto'd pre80s Ciocc stems are as good as impossible to find even on e-bay) but may be able to find a panto chainring if lucky at some point.
My stem/groupset are start of 80s, however there's no rule people didn't upgrade their groupsets in the past... ;) The frame has recessed brakes which would suggest late end of 1978, maybe 1979 with earlier tubing per decal.
I should get Humbrol for seatpost. I wanted to get it build this weekend but I got posted the wrong handlebars which is last missing bit. GRRRRRRRRR.

Nearly there...
Gluing tubulars is an experience that I would like to not repeat for a few weeks. There's something nicely arts and crafts about it, but aligning to rim is a pain.

And more little setbacks...I got these on the Bay no pic of inside was posted. Little do I know some SR levers have Aero routing...not that obvious either Le Manfriend had a look at catelogue scans and they are post 1984 at least.
However, they don't seem to close properly with non-aero routing (which I need cos aero will look pish on the bike)
Is anybody familiar with this problem?

Needs better pics...
...and SR brake levers hen's teeth atm for reasonable prices. Modern tape looks so-so may hunt NOS Benotto possibly. But first let's ride before summer is over...so far so good agile little machine.

Looking good pal! Just found this thread and that's one good looking Ciocc! Btw, you might want to true that wheels a bit. If I remember correctly I didn't have time to true it radially.
