IMO there's nothing out there that's functionally superior to HT2 MTB cranks.
Even if this is true (and it might be), that doesn't make them pretty. The XTR you posted is the MTB equivalent of FC-7900 - engineering brilliance styled by 1980s Sci-Fi book cover artists.
