For Sale: Peugeot (Vitus) carbon fibre 59x57 c-c

  • £375 ONO, cash for pickup in London (N8)

As you can see, it’s a mix of appropriate vintage bits and some not. This is my wife’s soon to be former bike, which she bought in the States from a friend who runs a shop; we are looking to trade clutter for cash. Original Vitus fork was smashed by the airline, so replaced with a Sake fork that is a decent match but heavier than the original. Probably needs new brake pads, cable & housing (it has sat mostly unridden since 2002). Let me know if questions –I’ll do my best to respond promptly but apologies in advance if there is a delay.

    The details:
    59 seat tube / 57 top tube (c-c)
Sake fork, random cheap roller bearing headset
    Suberbe F&R mech
    Campy NR clamp-on shift levers
Superbe brake levers (hoods need replacement)
Royal Gran Compe calipers (needs new brake pads)
    Stronglight sealed bb
Shimano 600 EX crankset (Triple ring model fc-6206, but without the inner ring)
Wheels: 32 spoke rear Deore LX hub 7spd, 36 spoke XT front
Basic bar & stem, hybrid / cushy Planet Bike saddle

  • Very rare top-of-the-bill Peugeot frame of the late eighties..One of the first carbon tubed frames..

  • IIRC this was called a PY10 FC and was ridden back in 85 by Robert Millar - nice

  • Thought I'd better substantiate that claim with a UTFS - Found this

    voila

Nice Bike - a fun project for someone getting it up to team spec

So the PY10FC is even older than I thought. I have one fitted with a c.1986 Campagnolo groupset.

  • My memory's not what it was, but I think the pro-team versions had a Mavic groupset, though it may have been campag record. You could by them as a frame-only and I'm guessing people would have put Campag groupsets on.
According to this catalogue page the full-build in the shops had a french/swiss groupset - Simplex, stronglight, weinmann, maillard etc

  • I had one a couple of years ago with full C-Record groupset. It's a nice bike, though quite flexy, and ultimately the frame fell apart.

  • usual story for bonded frames of this era (Vitus, TVT, Alan, Specialized & Peugeot) - they work well for light and dinky riders as the smaller frame sizes flex less and have less stress on them) Hence the Robert Millar endorsement (not that he need worry, he probably got a new one for every big race! - ditto Sean Kelly). They look great though, especially with the highly polished period campag or the more industrial Mavic kit

  • Here's mine..

  • Yellow turbo is fun, the wolber rims are perfect, very nice work sir

  • Cheers Rik !

  • Guess we'd better let this guy get back to selling his bike.

  • He won't mind our bumps

  • Indeed, the bumps are welcome as is the great information that Erik and Rik have posted.

I've kept this thing around with the idea of dialing it in with components that are of the era, but it hasn't been enough of a priority so it has just been sitting there. If someone is interested in taking it on as a project, we could discuss splitting out the frame, fork, headset, shift levers & bottom bracket, but I'd rather sell the whole thing (and also when trying to price it I didn't assign much value to the wheels, bars, stem, other non-vintage bits).

  • Here's mine..

    Stunning machine.

  • Just wondering if you still have this bike?! many thanks alfie

  • Hi all,
