  • ^ Can't answer your question but i'd be wary of assuming one 2.4 is the same as another. On my current bike i'm riding 2.3s on the front and 2.55s on the rear. Naturally the front is wider...

  • Definitely 27.2mm seatpost on my Flow Myth.

Sparky - aside from the above stem I have a barset.

Bars - Astro Professional riser bars (silver colour). 625mm wide, slight sweep, 80mm rise (approx).
Amoeba shorty stem (50mm reach, small rise).
    600g total weight.

If you wanted the bars with the other stem that is doable. I'd like £5 per item plus postage but all offers considered.

Thanks Jeez, but I'm going to hold off until I have some spare cash.

    Tis true.

What tyres were you considering Indra?

  • Spare cash to buy something decent rather than my tat?

Sorry, I didn't mean anything by it.

  • That's the sort of stuff I'm gradually replacing from my not-fancy but getting nicer bike. I normally change one thing before a big weekend, then see what frustrates me most about the bike, then change that next time.

So... you wait until a big weekend of riding and then potentially balls up the handling of your bike.

    U mad bro?

  • The 456 was lots of fun with slicker tyres and the suspension down around 100mm being thrown down steps and drops in town.

It's how I roll. Besides, with me in control of the bike, new handlebars are the least of the worries.

  • Any one interested in a logn muddy Easter group ride somewhere?

  • Possible. When / where? Sat and sun are good for me.

  • Saturday best for me - choice of non technical chilterns or your new found local knowledge of Surrey?

  • This morning:

  • Norfolk ? looks nice and flat

  • Norfolk ? looks nice and flat

Looks a bit like Thetford Forest?

  • Point of order... whilst we're not bursting with mountains in the bottom half of england I believe this is the *mountain *biking ride thread. Either way *nice *and *flat *are two words that should not be used together. Flat is that horrible, hopefully short bit between the top of an ascent and the start of a descent, or perhaps the bottom of a descent and the start of the next ascent. For me it's all about the two best things in life - hills and mud - albeit when it's sunny and dry and your bike doesn't need a half hour clean when you get home there are some serious compensations for a lack of mud.

The thread was initially called 'Let's offroad'. Please don't start that pointless argument about what is or isn't 'mountain biking'.

Flat(ish) trails can be lots of fun.

    This.

There's no reason why flatter trails can't be fun. Or trails without huge drops, or rock gardens, or whatever.

  • I set up my 2006/2007ish Magura Julies last night - when they actuate, the brakes are nice and firm, not at all spongy so no air bubbles, but the lever has about 10mm movement before it actuates. The lever moves completely freely, with no pad movement, for this first 10mm then 'hits' the hydraulic pressure. This happens even if the pistons are pushed right back and locked in place with a block of wood - the movement must be in the lever rather than in the caliper.

Is this normal? I have borrowed bikes with hydros before, but I can't recall whether or not they had this initial slackness.

  • Try the Magura Julie forum :-)

Some brakes have bite point adjustment, but not 2007 Julies, AFAIK

  • Dicki was almost right, BN was spot-on: Thetford Forest. We'd planned to go to Cannock but the snow meant we had to stay at home. Was in Bacton Woods this morning too.

Yeah, apparently it's normal. I don't see any advantage to speccing it like that, though.

  • Finally replaced my 5 year old, basically semi slick Highroller today... riding with rear wheel traction again should be fun

  • Nah, it'll just feel really draggy ;-)

  • That's what I'm afraid of :( Upgraded from wire bead to folding so hopefully the ~60g difference will counteract that...

  • Anyone fancy Swinley next weekend to check out the new trails?

  • Might be worth waiting until mid April for when its all open.
