First things first, they must be bulletproof.
I currently weight 96-98kg based on time since last poop. Min 32 spokes, as for a serious distance bike I dont like flex.

second, they must be uncomplicated. I want to be able to fix a spoke if it comes to it.

Third, they'll ideally be cheapish. current budget won't stretch to anywhere near Ardennes money.

Don't forget wider rims too, very important for lower pressure and performance.

Donor bike currently rund Mavic Open Pros.
So does pretty much every other bike in the quiver, except the BMX and the frankenstein commuter.

I'm resigned to a new rear wheel as the donor bike wheel is true, but is starting to break spokes and is showing signs of being on it's legs. I was thinking of Hope Pro S3 on Open pro - mostly because I trust them as a rim, but also because I know people have run 32mm clinchers on them for cyclocross, and they can be had for next to nix.

However, if I'm looking at hand-built costs for a new front wheel I wold consider a wider rim....
but, bearing in mind that most often they'll be running 23mm tyres, is there really a benefit?
