  • Thanks. Tried that, but it still felt like my hand was going to rip off.

Think I may buy one of those case holders, assuming they are strong enough.

  • Rat watch project.

    BEFORE:

$20 hands from MCWW and mod by Alsal Watches (legends). The second hand did not fit as it was not ETA compatible, but Alsal made it work.

    Total project cost £98.50

  • That looks dead good. Bravo.

  • Like the hands but the nato strap is too small...

  • Bizarrely, I like the "too small" look.

  • It's setting off my OCD.

  • Ved is channeling James Bond.

  • :)

  • So what is the general rule for the price difference of a second hand watch compared to the same watch bought new?

What is the depreciation when it comes to watches? I know it will depend on the watch, so if we are interested in good brand automatic watch?

    50%?
    25%?

  • I'd says at least charity shop kind of percentage assuming we're talking about your underwear watch.

  • I was under the impression that a decent Swiss watch, with original receipt, box and service history can even appreciate in value.

  • Supply and demand, it's like anything, innit?

  • yeah, thats what i thought for all responses...

Also trust in the seller affects it...

I guess it depends on the risk of throwing money away (which im really good at)...

  • Some watches do appreciate in value, especially stainless steel rolexes which are always in demand and Rolex keep hiking up list prices for new ones...

  • My Omegas are all worth more than I paid and a lot more than when they were new.
My Heuer is only worth about half of what it originally cost, and probably a tiny bit more than I paid.
Apart from the HMT which is probably still worth the £8 it apparently cost.

  • I found a looovely watch for nothing on the bay from a far away place.

    loveliest ive ever seen.

can someone tell me what PayPal covers me for? and can I demand a better delivery service from eBay?

  • Ved is channeling James Bond.

a shmall wrisht needsh a shmall watch.

  • can someone tell me what PayPal covers me for? and can I demand a better delivery service from eBay?

Without quoting their terms, it should cover you for the item being sold as described. If say, it had the wrong movement, you could document this and apply for a refund.

Make sure your Paypal account is "verified".

If the watch is vintage, it may be worth getting someone else to cast an eye over it too.

Not sure about shipping. Just make sure it's signed for and insured for pricy stuff.

  • underwear watch.

    :-)

  • Thanks, she won't go for a g shock.
she is being difficult to please.

On a tangent, any opinions/ experiences with Casio Edifice watches?
I've been eyeing up this solar powered number:

It would be my day to day watch if I'm not wearing my GX-56 g shock.

this may be an alternative option and it's high on tech:

If you're an Apple fan, you will really appreciate the latest Citizen Eco-Drive Watch: Proximity.

This timepiece is loaded with all of the features you would expect from the Watch Brand of the Year Winner; a perpetual calendar, 60 minute chronograph, 12/24 hour indication, second time zone, power reserve indicator and, being 100 metres water resistant ensures it can really be put through its paces.

Thanks to technological advances, there are also some truly unique additional features to this watch which make it stand out from the crowd:

Downloading the watch's application, allows you to connect it to your iPhone 4s/5 through Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy sync. Immediately activating the Automatic Date and Time Synchronisation features ensuring that no matter how often you change time zones, the watch is kept to perfect time through connection with your phone.
If you've ever lost your iPhone 4s/5, you'll understand that sinking feeling of having to retrace your steps to find it – no longer will you need to do this once you own a Proximity watch. Thanks to the watch find feature. Simply activate the function on your watch and your phone will ring so that you can be reunited with it, even if it's on silent. Furthermore, should you forget your phone; Proximity will discretely vibrate to alert you that the Bluetooth connection is broken and that you've left your phone behind.
Waiting for an important email but have to attend a meeting? You can stay close to your inbox with Proximity. Your watch will quietly alert you using the same discrete vibration, the second hand automatically sweeping to point at various icons on the dial ring, so you can see whether you have an incoming call, email or calendar entry.
Mark Robinson, Brand Director for Citizen Watch UK, said "We are extremely proud to be the first watch brand in the UK to utilise technologies with our Proximity Watch Collection. Coupled with our Eco-Drive Technology, harnessing any light to power our watches, we believe this is a truly unstoppable combination."

Fuelled by light. Any light. A watch that never needs a battery. Be Bold. Be Precise. Be UNSTOPPABLE.

  • saw one of these beasts in the flesh the other day, quite like 'em.
    Helson bronze Shark Diver

I'm agonising over buying one of these. So tempted but a bit worried about the size and whether to go bronze with green or brown face. They are both lush!

  • this is a dress watch

Really like this watch, does anyone know where to get these in the UK or some similar models? Price range around £200?

  • Stonehedge which size are you thinking 42 or 45? I really want one but definitely can't afford it at the moment. Getting married later this year.

I'm tending towards the 45 as one of the watches that I wear regularly is 45 wide and it doesn't look silly. That said, the SD45 is a full 4mm deeper.

I can't afford it right now either, will have to save up a bit first. I'm a bit encouraged by the fact that they appear to have a decent resale value should I have second thoughts.
