you dont clearcoat powdercoat I believe.
It is essentially a layer of plastic dust that is sprayed onto the frame and stick, its then all melted together in the oven forming a 'shell'. Gloss and strength is dependant upon what the paint powder consists of.
If would have been nice to have known this before I paid extra for a clearcoat!

To be honest I'm not too fussed, I'm having a great time skidding mine all over Bournemouth like a motherfucker and I'm enjoying the ride a lot.

Rob sure is a great salesman, bet he could sell the polish air thats trapped in the packaging as an extra feature as well.
Though you could of course clear coat powder coating, you couldn't powder coat the clear coat over it, since it would have no metal to stick too. You could use other sorts of clear coat paint, but I don't think it would really do any good at all, it wouldn't improve the powder coated layers 'stick' to the frame at all. since its just like a shell it can chip quite easy

Ah well, nevermind, I'm in too good a mood this week to care about a few chips in some paint!

Guys, can you tell about 68 english bottom bracket, what size do you use (107, 111 jr 113) to have a right chain line. Gonna use it with http://www.miche.it/en/catalogo/catalogo-miche/guarniture/guarnitura-xpress & Miche Pistard wheel set. Thanks.

That says JIS 107 on it, so a guess would be a 107 JIS BB

Rincewind, you can actually use a clear powdercoat over a regular powdercoat, you just have to put the clear on when the frame is still hot from the oven. I've even done it with different colors with success.
About the times, Robert initially said the frame would be ready in early January. Since then, he's said that "it will be ready at the end of this week" about 5 times. Quite frankly I don't trust a word out of his mouth (keyboard) when it comes to time. mine is now almost 3 months late. What sucks is that it's a fatbike frame and we won't have any snow soon.

^ That´s shitty situation. Maybe mielec has some difficulties building up a fatbike frame and while trying solve them out completes other orders. Or did they weld up the frame already?

Maybe mielec has some difficulties building up a fatbike frame
this is why I went for standard Mash copy I just hope he`s remembered the double bottle mounts and IHS, let alone got the colour right, or given me smooth welds, and thats if it turns up with no dings in the frame from transit as Ive heard in some cases

Well, I was communicating with Robert over email last night and I sent payment this morning with a final confirmation of my order details ~ Not sure if he thinks I want a different headtube to what I actually want.
I asked for an estimate on a current time scale for build and shipping, he came back with approx 5 weeks.
I'm not in a rush for this frame and the idea is that I can purchase components over the coming months and have it ready for the summer... so if it turns out to be 8-12 weeks, then so be it.
That being said, if I was in a rush or really wanted to get my hands on the frame, then I would certainly be really pissed off if my 5 week wait turned in to 12+ months.
The possibility of a dented headtube in transit concerns me as well.

Dork Mate, I think you have the right idea about this whole thing, I admit I was being a bit keen about getting my frame, but if I`d have read a bit more on here, I would have re-estimated lead time and sat back and waited, but its just the fact that he said one thing and did another, it gets right up my nose, lol, anyway have you requested the new drop outs ??
-
• #3339
In regards to the head tube, while in the process of giving Robert a WTF email I expressed these concerns, and suggested he has words with his courier as well as doubling up on any packaging in this area and drop outs to try to do more to stop them getting damaged
-

I did request the new drop outs, seems a worthwhile upgrade.
Hopefully he'll pay attention to your concern and improve the packing around the headtube for transport.... kind of crap to have a new frame arrive which you know could very well be dented.

Its a pisser, but tbh, ive got to a point where Ive stopped worrying about it, I`ll deal with it when and if it arrives in that state

I'm in a very similar boat, although not with Mielec. Except I knew this would be a long build, and was informed of this. I was expecting/hoping for 12 months. Most of the delays after that have been as much my own, as the builders. Fatbikes just arent standard. I'm not sure if this is the case with Mielec. But IMHO its understandable that a small builder will need to keep easier builds going out the door. I personally did'nt pay for all the extra man hours my frame has demanded. So I'm not going to complain about them.
Hope this works out for you.

If people tell you what's what from the get go, then I think its fine for a build to take as long as it does, it just seems Robert is becoming reowned for being economic with honest timescales, we'll see how things pan out i guess

• #3344
The dented headtube is an easy fix, bit of bending with pliers and hammering the round end of a spanner at it and it pops out fine, squeeze your bearings in and job done, maybe stick a bit of inner tube over the bit you're bending if worried about paintwork.

• #3345
Thanks for the info... may come in handy, but lets hope it arrives in perfect shape.

• #3346
Yeah fingers crossed won't have to go down that road, but I'll copy that in case its needed

I've just sent a mail to Mielec regarding a new frame. Initially I wanted a Dodici, but the possibility to get a frame with geometry like a Low really got me thinking. Also the price is a lot cheaper.
So I've asked him if he can built a frame exactly like the Low's, and how much it'll cost.
Looking forward to his answer! Some of the builds from in here is really great! Like this one: http://25.media.tumblr.com/59241a250d1b7f9e29a8e28836a2f661/tumblr_mi07cmblGi1rcpavto1_500.jpg -

Nah, it can't be that hard for him to figure it out. He've made them before.
negaatio, can't you post a pic with wheels? :)
