Knee Pain

  • It was Scherrit that put me onto her when I had issues late season last year.

Booked in to see her tomorrow :) hopefully it helps!

  • So its 90pound for an hour consultation? How about the subsequent treatment sessions? My right ankle has been fucked for 15 years and am starting to think I should do something about it.

  • I've been quoted Ā£78 for tomorrow, and subsequent consults are less

  • Nicola was very helpful yesterday, thanks again for the recommendations.
This is only the beginning of the recovery but that first session was very professional, friendly and thorough, and has given me some confidence that this will be resolved in the not too distant future.

Was found to have multiple areas of increased muscle tightness on the affected side when compared to my other leg - which may be pulling the patella out of alignment/or too tightly against the femur leading to the pain when I move it, if I understand it correctly.

Had some massage, some acupuncture (not in the chi forces sense, rather just inserting a needle into the area of tight muscle, encouraging a relaxtion response apparently) and have been sent away with orders to not cycle, and do some stretches everyday (hamstrings/iliopsoas/glut medius).

    She remembers you btw Hippy!

  • Walked to work today - snow so didn't fancy falling off the bike (insert don't lean joke here!) even though it was 3.5 miles and almost an hour of walking my knee is fine and surprisingly feels a little more stable.

Only bad thing is I've got a monster blister on the outside of my foot.

  • Probably has been said too many times, but I think getting a proper bike fit is a must for knee issues. I had some nasty issue with my knee last year (attributed to leg length discrepancy apparently) and Scherrit got it sorted better, easier and quicker than I would have ever had on my own. 6 months & 7000 miles later, I'm still going strong.

  • Scherrit is the man

  • I think the worst thing about knee pain is when you think you're over it and it comes back. I know it's because I'm riding the Ronde on Saturday and my body is trying to tell me to bail.

Back to the pistol squats twice a day for me.

  • First long ride in months tomorrow since my knee called it quits about 2 years ago. Aiming for 40-50k or so, should hopefully be fine as I've been doing plenty of fast 20k's with no problems at all.

  • Good luck :)

  • Did 75 flat miles on friday. My left knee is fucked. could hardly move my leg on friday night and saturday.Able to walk now but it is bad. going to go to the doctors on tuesday. I have private health via work so im going see if i can go private.

I thought the pain was orignally just a little thing, nothing to worry about. This is worse. Scarey worse.

40k done down in Kent, lovely ride that included both snow and black ice. Went down a hill and tried to brake, no chance, back wheel locked up and I careered down a hill going faster and faster, managed to stop just before landing in the ditch.

Knees felt fine all the way so rode home as well, in total 60k done, if my knees aren't moaning tomorrow I'll consider them fully functioning again.

Same here. I was wondering, if both my legs are the same measurement (they are), and the right knee is okay after riding for 4 hours, but the left is fucked, does this mean that there's a smaller chance the problem is on the bike fit?

I know, depends, go see Scherrit (I will), etc, but just wondering anyway. Hope you feel better soon.

  • too many variables - could be a foot varus, weakness in a muscle, old injury, hip or spine alignment, different degree of flexibility...

yes, I know, it's useless to try and speculate on stuff like this.
    It's just so annoying.

  • knee's starting to hurt a bit... please knee, hold up!

  • R l C E

  • Went to Condor for a fit on Thursday, there was a focus was on 'knee paths'...knees feeling strong.
So, yeah, get a bike fit.

  • nah, just ask questions on the interwebz and do it by trial and error

don't worry, you may only hurt yourself this way

  • went swimming today. knee feels better. might try doing an hour or so a week to see if swimming helps .

went to coral reef in bracknel with the kids. Anyone been there ? The fast water slide is really quite fast.

  • Tried a ride last week, wearing two pairs of leggings, 20km in > knee pain

Ride today, wearing just shorts, 85km done > no knee pain

I think the compression on my knee joint when wearing the two leggings quite likely worsens the symptoms I get... It only started when doing a 200km in february, when it was freezing temps and I felt the need to wear two leggings.

Doubt it was the route cause, which the physio puts down to some tight and weak muscles, but I imagine it plays a role in making it occur sooner/symptoms worsen.

    /csb

(a forumer reccomended trying out womens tights, same warmth with less compression over the knee joint. May look into it)

  • My knees feel fine today! Feels worked through, but nothing more than that. Such a good feeling after over a year of troubles. Hopefully this means I can start doing regular 40-60k rides. Bring on summer!

  • ^win!

  • ^^ congrats!

I've not managed any riding since August.
    Damn you knee [shakes fist]

  • Anyone on here ever have a ligament injury they've recovered from? I managed to rupture two and sprain one, one (MCL) has been repaired through surgery and the surgeon is debating whether another operation would be a good idea after I've completed rehab. So for the last few months alongside my physio I've been riding a single speed Brompton slowly, and doing some gym work wearing a knee brace. That's all manageable, but I have my two proper bikes sitting there looking forlorn and dusty... I suspect the geared road bike shouldn't pose too many problems as long as I'm careful to keep in relatively spiny gears, but I'm not sure about my track bike - the ligaments that are still damaged are the cruciates, and I'm a little concerned that the forces created by riding fixed will stress them... I don't plan to ride it without my knee brace, but even then I'm a bit uncertain. Anyway, anyone else ever have ligament injuries they came back from?
