I'd go with getting as new and low mileage Micra as possible with your budget. Not exciting but everyone I've had has been a little trooper. Quick look on autotrader sees a few early 2000 spec cars with 50k-70-k within budget. For a bit more more money, Honda Jazz are within reach and they're also a great little hatch back.
