the roads around Norfolk are all very flat, especially the area in between Norwich and Bacton i should think, as a lot of it is the Broads . There should be some nice routes through there - I'm sure someone else with more local knowledge will be along soon with a suggestion for you

The city has some hills though... and cobbles...

I ride in 48/17 round most of the city, only a couple of really horrible hills where that doesn't work

Thanks peeps. I'll hit google maps and see what route it suggests I take, probably bring a spare cog or fixed/free hub but reckon 46/17 seems a safe bet give or take long straight flat roads on the way to Norwich. Cheers

We used to do Friday night fixed rides from Norwich, and sometimes went out to Bacton. No worries. You can probably knock up a quiet route quite easily on Google maps. Stay away from the A149, and once you get nearer to Norwich avoid the Wroxham > Norwich road too, and take the smaller stuff through the villages.

Hey Fokus. Not too sure about the Bacton route, but I can assure you that 46x17 will be fine. I run 44x16, which works out as pretty much the same - i.e. low 70s in gear inches- and I do fine. There are some annoying little inclines, but nothing a little mash won't get you over.

I have a route I do to Wallcot which you could use as base to get to Bacton. Mostly off main roads but could be tweaked to be made more direct.
I've ridden this on 46x17 also, so no problems there. You need to go further North to get proper hills in Norfolk ;-)

Ello Norfuk folks!
I'll probably be over by the coast for easter and will most likely bring my bike and get some miles in. Is it realistic to think I'll be able to ride from Bacton area to Norwich? How are the roads and is Norwich (and the surrounding area) really hilly?
I tend to ride 46/17 or 46/16 around London but have a 19T cog too. Any advice welcome,
Cheers
