so what tyres? 32mm slicks or something with knobbles?
i have previously done this route on sunday best bike, with 25mm tyres, the wheels/brakes kept jamming with all the mud. so this time i intend to use the commuto x bike with disc brakes (but will remove rack and mudguards)

Either will work. I did it on conti speed cross which is a 35mm file tread. Other half did it on 28mm marathon supremes with mudguards and didn't have any issues.

how hard will people laugh if I do this on a 10 year gt zr3000?

Nothing - as I don't agree with cycling for charity. Unless your name is Ed Scoble and you are cycling from London to Casablanca, fixed and unaided.
But like I said, well done for raising money anyway. Good cause too :-)
I don't get how it is any different. Some people cycle 100km for fun, others 5000, 10000, whatever. But that's me. Maybe I should feel bad that my epic sufferfest long-distance unsupported black-and-white-photo cycling holiday (if you like riding bikes it's always going to be a holiday) didn't raise any money for anybody else.
You will get mocked though. And rightly so - it's not really within the spirit of the ride. Bit gutted that it clashes with the Ldn classic this year - would have liked to have completed it on the 'right' bike.
Doesn't it clash with the Classic every year? I missed the Classic registration so I'm in for this. trispok and disc wheel at the ready. Bring it.

Upgrade to the 25mm slicks again ~(skinnier if you have them), with the extra mud clearance on the commuto you won't have the jammin' issues from last time and will not lose pace on the long road sections that link up the short not really muddy at all sections.

what a joke, places taken within one day of going up! where did all these people hear about it? also (bit cheeky i know) but whats the issue with just turning up and riding anyway seeing as tho it's a free event?

take a CX bike - i took my carbon racer last year and although quick on the roads was a nightmare on the bridal tracks, grave and cross field jaunts!! spent most of the ride squirting my water bottle into my brakes to remove constant mud and debris - great day out but did end up covered in shite!!!!
And looking at how the weather has been the last few weeks it will be muddy out there.

Nothing is free in life but death which does cost your life, so stay away from the beer and chips!

Got a pair of 32c Vitoria XNs that should do it nicely - file tread with knobbly shoulders for the field sections

i believe it was mentioned on their twitter feed
similar issues as to black riding the Tweed Run, it is a bit like gate crashing someone's party
the event is organised and insured for a certain number of people, facilities laid on to cater for their needs. it is a nice event laid on free, but if loads of people turn up without registration it means that future ones may be put in jeopardy, or they would need to be charged for.

things like the tweed run have similar issues, it goes live, people who are online enter, and the event fills up.

If you can get 25mms on it with a bit of cruft clearance I don't see why not.
