That's a bit cruel really, I didn't mean it. I've never done the youth one but the last basic session I did there was a nasty crash caused by inexperience, and the youth riders were the only others who saw it coming and moved up the track.

Ah well I don't have the experience for intermediate sessions and I doubt I have the speed or fitness for that either so I'll start off with basic.
Any of you guys ride/plan on riding the novice sessions? -
• #2579
Do you mean novice racing? If so, me.
Going to do the basic a few more times to ease in the start of season before I make the big jump to intermediate too.

That's plan to and would like to ride the novice races, not have ridden/am riding.

I meant like the basic training, racing would be cool too though.

Just talk to the coaches before/after you ride and they will advise you the best way forward. IME they are all helpful.

@Indra Basic sessions, from my limited chances to ride them over the last couple of years, can sometimes be a but chaotic to start, but often got a pretty good rhythm going once things settled down. I would say there have been quite a wide range of abilities in the group, so managing us must be pretty tricky. The coaches are really brilliant, make sure you listen to them.
Intermediate training looks like it's got better and faster over the last couple of years from spectating point of view, but maybe I've just got more appreciative, through riding basic sessions, of how disciplined and smooth riding is actually not as easy as it may seem.

Thanks for the responses guys, just found out I can't make the first session though.
Will try and make the one after. I really can't wait to get on the track again. -

Looking forward to riding a longer, outdoor velodrome; for the first time.

Grr, only just found out the omnium is cancelled. Was really looking forward to finding out how slow I truly am! :-(

So if people (me) want to get involved in the basic saturday sessions, and I'd like to redo my induction, what time would you say I need to be there by? Am planning on mostly going to the MuleBar Ladies sessions but on the Sunday's I can't make it, would like to get a track session in each week as it were...
-
• #2589
Novice induction is 1-2, following the basic training 12-1. I guess the idea is to give a week cooling off?

Poots, Basic track training now starts at 12pm on a sturday, if you still have your own bike then just come and sign up 30 mins before you start, but if you don't have your own bike then come a little earlier to sign up and hire one of the bikes they have in the hanger (as spaces and bikes limited for each session).

Who OKs a bike for track? Is it just any of the coaches?

but i asked the chap doing the 'bike fitting' to give mine the okay when i took mine down for the first time.

No one ok'd mine when I went.

^^ Yeah I'd read that and I'm pretty sure mine fits the bill.
Just wondered if there was a designated checker. Seems like there isn't and I'll just ask someone official looking. -

Ta HoKe and TV - I know the times but have the beginners sessions been chockablock and people turned away?
Will turning up 30mins before be enough then?
-
• #2596
Last year an arrival 30 minutes ahead wouldn't have been enough, due to the TdF and Olympics surge in interest. Will be interesting to see how much that carries over this year.
-
• #2597
I'm super cautious, so I would turn up an hour before, register, and enjoy watching the previous session.

The main reason why they put the beginners session back is basically to stop people finishing their induction and secretly jumping into the basic training, as this ruins the people who specially wanted to come to the basic training and provides initially enough store bikes so people can use for the session.
I think 30 mins is more than enough if you have your bike poots as all you really need is to sign up and pay and that's basically it. =)
See you down track side! x
I think I'll go to them then because at the last youth session I was at least a head taller than everyone else and not even the fastest, so I did feel a bit silly.
