Looks like a good road drop position. IMHO the problem is most ordinary folk only use their drop like a third of the time. You're missing a hoods position. Have you considered tilting your bars so you can use the hood area better, sans hoods.
I've ridden it a fair bit today and I use the tops where the hoods would be a fair bit, the tape is very tacky so I still have a fair bit to push against, I don't use the drops much in regular riding but like to tuck into them on long downhills.
I'm very comfortable with how it is, will stretch more and try the longer stem some time though.
