  • Mystery 753 superlight, 59cm seat tube ctc SOLD

This is a very lightweight steel frame of unknown make but outstanding quality.

The head tube is faintly stamped ‘Reynolds 53’. Frame without forks or fittings weighs only 1530g and the seat tube diameter is 27mm. Therefore I conclude it is Reynolds 753 tubing.

    Top tube 58cm ctc.

Quality of workmanship is high – certainly made by a craftsman.

Omas headset, smooth, new bearings. New sealed bottom bracket with a 121mm JIS spindle.

For 700c wheels, although the rear needs a brake with fairly deep drop. 110/123mm dropouts – Campag on rear, the chromed forks are Columbus.

The bottom bracket shell is English threading but some BBs are really tough to fit, it might benefit from having the thread chased, although it does work as is if you are prepared to sweat.

Currently in bare steel coated in clear automotive lacquer, somewhat chipped. Including forks, headset and BB it still weighs only 2600g - it handles beautifully and will make a uniquely lightweight SS or road fixed.

    SOLD

Dawes 531 tourer - 64cm seat tube ctc SOLD

This frame came into the world in 1987 in the guise of a red Dawes Galaxy. It has been resprayed (twice) and around ten years ago a cracked down tube was replaced. Comes with an attractive Tange Comet headset (totally smooth, but you will need to invest in a new set of loose bearings). Has a sealed bottom bracket of unknown make that was fitted in 1990 and is still good after many thousands of London miles. Originally 27” wheels but works fine with 700c & deep drop brakes. 110/126mm dropouts. 27mm diameter seat tube.

    In my possession since 1988.

Sorry to see it go, but would be even more sorry to see it waste away hanging in my garage.

    SOLD

Nice bits to put on these frames: http://www.lfgss.com/thread102801.html

  • Love the look of the bare steel.

The Mystery is indeed so light that it feels like it should be tied down.

    And the Dawes as was:

  • That mystery frame is gorgeous—does it have holes for mudguards? Can't make out from pics but doesn't look like it…?
