General advice is to buy hub and rim first, measure to check manufacturers haven't quietly changed things to catch you out, then buy spokes. Butted spokes are good but stick to 1.8mm centre section for a first build as skinnier spokes are much more awkward to build well. If you really want fancy spokes to match your fancy components it might be worth paying a professional wheel builder too.
